Help me find a new photo hosting site

I feel stupid but How?

For this, I hit 'reply with quote' under your post, then clicked the upload file button between "post reply and "upload file" which opens a new window. I browse my computer files to find the pic file I want, then open it and it automatically uploads to here. Next, i select "full image" to make it display full-size, or to save bandwidth it can be left in thumbnail view and only opened by those wanting to view larger.

Kevin / Brad ,

I probably display as many photos as anyone.
I'd always believed if I used a Hosting Service like Photo Bucket, that I was saving the forum money vs. " uploading the file " straight to the forum.

Right or wrong ?

Ben

This was exactly my concern as well, thanks Brad for clearing that up. I like the "dumbed-down" basic photo editing tools that Photobucket and Imgur have, much easier for a dummy like me to use than the free stuff I have on my 'puter. So for the most part I'll just use the hosting sites but it IS nice to be able to just do a straight upload from my camera card if I'm in a hurry to post something timely and relevant to a flowing conversation.

Ease of use is a key component of any system.
I use the upload file feature most of the time as it works well for my connection method. If I used an actual camera instead of my phone to take photos I would use photobucket to upload the photos.

In short, use whatcha got

Confused, I upload from my hard drive to this forum all the time. How come it would do you no good to have them on your hard drive for this forum?

Ah! We're not quite talking the same thing. :)

I keep all my pictures on my hard drive, but you can't see them. If I want to share them, I either upload them to the forum I'm posting them to or I upload them to an image sharing site. Because I'm on Reddit a lot and Reddit doesn't allow direct upload of photos, I'm in the habit of using photo sharing sites for pretty much everything.

You can upload them directly to this forum.

I enjoy sharing photos, however I don't want to do it at the " Owner's Expense."

Do whatever you'd like at Brad's expense - you have my permission. :D

In all seriousness, you guys aren't uploading enough pictures directly here to even come close to being an issue. The guy I have the site hosted through is pretty generous on space, and if the forum starts pushing boundaries, he'll let me know. I'll then make settings adjustments to address that.

This site will have to grow a lot before that becomes an issue. So, do it the way that's most convenient for you -- a photo sharing site, or upload directly to the forum.

If there ever comes a time where we have to ask people to host their pictures elsewhere, rest assured a tutorial on how to do so will be provided. If folks are having problems uploading photos to here, ping me and I'll put together a tutorial.

OK Guys Not to change the subject ( & I can figure most forums out) If I wanted to be "bad" an upload directly from my computer to this site! How the heck is it done! I have not found the link! I'm hosting all my photos here off my own website ( I do not mind at all but I'm puzzled as to the link here for direct upload???) I do not see any!

Jim, when you get the dialogue box to make a post you get the "upload a file" button below the dialogue box. I click that button and get image.png
This box. Click "choose file" and pick the directory containing the desired photo then select the desired photo. image.png
You then can select full image, like I did here, or leave them as thumbnails.

Man I love the iPad, makes this stuff so simple.

Ok, same as in post #32. Just under the text box (That's where your typing) on the right is three links, the middle one says "upload file". Click on that, it will take you to the files on your computer, select your pictures folder, select the picture you want to upload and double click on it.

Mac based? Time to go hunting for the button, Safari style!
I don't have a Mac so I can't help. I would assume, dangerous as that is, that you would see a similar screen to what have on the iPad. Steve Jobs likes similar views on each platform.

Ian,
I feel your pain with photobucket. I have internet speeds similar or slower than you mention. I've found that if I only upload photos after they have been edited with a free photo editing software, then photobucket ain't so bad.

I use Irfanview photo editor, it's quite easy once you find the few tools of the million it has. And of course, since the editor is on your computer, it is lightening fast...unlike Photobucket's tools.

Thanks for the tip, Jon. I've actually used Irfanview just a little bit before and have it on two of my machines, maybe I should look at it a little closer. So far Imgur has been great and simplifies uploading and editing the few photos I want to upload.

Yeah, always resize before uploading -- it'll save you time and headaches.

FWIW, if you're using software that will let you do it, when you resize set the resolution to 72DPI -- anything higher is a waste when you're targeting displays.
