Another one to consider is "google drive" you get a lot of space for free. It is a drag and drop thing; you have to do your sizing before uploading

There is a bit of trial an error in this Ian, at least for me.
However It does look like I'm going to like it .

I guess we crashed the imgur site last night, Ben! Couple times it shut down and gave an overloaded message. Still, the delays weren't long, the editing was just what I needed, the ads were a non-issue, I could set privacy the way I wanted, and the uplink is easy. I also created some albums. I'm happy so far.

I don't really have any problems with Photobucket. Generally set the camera on low pixel count for things going out to sites like this one. Larger one's I'll resize with Irfanview (free). Copy the IMG from Photobucket, paste it into Notepad and copy it over to the message reply area. Never had any problems so far. Generally use Firefox to view my sites and IE can be open at the same time to access Photobucket.

I long ago gave up on off computer storage. I keep everything on my computer hard drive. Just don't be afraid to throw things away, they are only important to you. FWIW, Ric

I keep all my photos on multiple physical devices at home (hard drive failures have proven the value of that philosophy). However, that does me no good for sharing them on sites like this -- for that, I typically use imgur, or in some cases 500px.

Confused, I upload from my hard drive to this forum all the time. How come it would do you no good to have them on your hard drive for this forum?

Rick ,
I guess I'm confused also . If I try to upload a photo the only way I'm offered here is an image link Via Http: I don't seem to have the option of uploading directly from my computer ( as on other sites)?

I can upload to here direct from my computer (unlike most other sites); works great.

Jim, under the text box when making a post click on the link "Upload a file". That will take you to the files on your computer, click on the pictures folder (or wherever you store your pictures) and double click on the picture you want. Once uploaded you have the option of keeping it a thumbnail or displaying full size.

That is what I use to post from the iPad. Only downside is the fact that option isn't available in a PM.

I can direct-upload no problem. The reason I go through all the off-site hosting hoopla is to keep my junk from contributing to the data mass in the server that hosts this forum.

I don't worry about that, I have tech support to deal with it. When he says I need to worry, I will worry. He hasn't said boo yet so I'm not worried.

Kevin / Brad ,

I probably display as many photos as anyone.
I'd always believed if I used a Hosting Service like Photo Bucket, that I was saving the forum money vs. " uploading the file " straight to the forum.

Right or wrong ?

Kevin has assured me that server space isn't really much of an issue. A set amount is allowed for a basic fee so using less space, up to a pont doesn't cost any less. I have repeatedly asked Kevin and been told that he doesn't forsee it being an issue for quite some time.
Shold space become an issue, or even close to it, I have no doubt Kevin will let me know.

Fine...... ! !
I enjoy sharing photos, however I don't want to do it at the " Owner's Expense."
