Henry Homesteader

Ruger makes something similar as well. The High Points are said to be surprisingly good guns, but sure are ugly and ungainly.

Take this from a High Point fan. And a friend of the Late owner.
The High Point Carbines, seam a bit heavy and awkward in an off balance kind of way.
Had one in 45 acp. Shot well for a carbine just could not get comfortable carrying it on a hunt. Ok for a truck gun. Or something to leave at camp, or even plink with. But I would not take it on a hike, or hunting where you must walk any. Been there done that.

I do have a 9mm one, it presented itself asa a very good deal and I was curious, but have not shot it much. When I do and determine it's something I like, I will find one in 10mm.

This little Henry reminds me of the Winchester 1907 which I am kind of a fan of. Wish they'd chamber it in something more powerful.

The Henry Homesteader is a good looking little carbine. I wouldn't be interested in a 9mm, but might be tempted in a 40 or 40 S&W.

My dad was quite a pistol shooter in his day. Pretty late in life, he picked up a big CZ auto pistol of some sort, I think it started in .38 Super but he had it reamed to 9x23. Not the kind of thing I am interested in and handed it off to one of my brothers who wanted it. That 9x23 seemed a rather ferocious thing to me and it looks like it would be a great thing to chamber in rifles of this sort.

Anybody seen one of these? A 9mm Carbine that isn't all tacticooled out. I'm not real interested in 9mm, but if made in .45 ACP or 10mm or something yet to be determined which is actually reasonably powerful, I would be interested. MSRP seems abit high.

One in 45 ACP would be interesting as you could use it as an RV gun and take it across the states, at least most of them.

Just what I was going to say, a 351 Winchester with Rem 742 wood on it!

Not something I'm likely to buy.

All we really have to work with is the MSRP, which we all know how accurate those are. Were one of these to be competitively priced and then chambered in a better caliber, I'd be real interested. That Ruger looks like a great concept and I'm sure it works like a champ, most things Ruger do. But I really am a blued steel and walnut kind of gy, so this Henry is intriguing.

Me like the 9 mm Henry Homesteader.:) Particularly, that the charging bolt is ambidextrous and has a tang safety for us south paws. Also like the fact, that Henry offers and adaptor for Sig 320 magazines. Me no have any Glocks.

MSRP under $1000 isn't bad in today's market. I gave more than that for a CZ Scorpion, several years ago.

My first thought was a Browning BAR (not the military but commercial hunting rifle) and the RF autos that they had for a time. Then the Winchester Prison rifles, the SL series. 350, 351 & 401.

I like the wood but seems "wrong" as a 9mm pcc... It might be different enough from the style/genre to "fit...

But Im not a 9mm fan boy and @ 900 not interested.

Henry may be trying to fill the void left by the discontinued Marlin Camp 9 and the prices folks seem willing to pay for them. I'm not a fan of blowbacks, and would prefer to see a leveraction with short throw ala Browning BL22.

I'm thinking a 10mmAuto that will also function with 40S&W in similar fashion as the 38sp/357 lever carbines would be very interesting. 10mmAuto from a carbine 180-200gr at 1500fps + is more than enough to handle medium game. I'm not sure straight blowback could handle that.
As a southpaw I am loving the ergonomics of the Homesteader.
