6089EBF0-71D0-4C43-8F26-C55281EF6C66.jpegThere’s going to be one of these ugly mugs in my gun safe soon and I plan to feed it 250~300 rounds of factory fmj ammo for break in but then it must eat my reloads.

Who actually owns one or has actually shot one?

What cast bullets work best?

I have a Lee 200 grain TL swc (shoots great out of my Ruger 1911)

I prefer Lee molds because of cost but I’ll get what works.

I've shot one and it ate a coffee can of my mixed old cast reloads like Skittles. They're extremely heavy, hard on the cheek, and don't hold nearly enough cartridges but they are surprisingly accurate, reliable, durable, and FUN! Also, you'd be hard pressed to find a company that stands behind their products as well as Hi-Point.

what Ian said.
i got one in 9mm, it'll shoot whatever junk I got, and do it pretty good too.
it really needs a 100 round drum or at least a 50 round stick mag.
10 rds. only makes you smile widely.

What do you mean by “hard on the cheek”. ?

The butt plate is mounted on guide rods with springs to soften the feel of the heavy bolt slamming back and forth, but this allows the stock to recoil into your cheek, right where the slopey part is that's covered with the black pad.

probably fix that with a little top or bottom pitch, if those screws holding the recoil pad on have any sort of use.

That, with a large magazine, in 9mm would be a whole lot of fun. And eat ammo like a kid eats candy.

I’ve got the 45acp pistol that they make. It is very reliable with the 230 Lee round nose tumble lube bullet, and the Lyman 452630 semi wadcutter. Both loaded over a mid weight charge of Ramshot Zip.

Do not buy the extended double mags. If it does not run the mag is the problem. Good thing you don't have the old planet of the apes model. It would rip every piece of hair off your face when shooting it. The stock flexed being a clam shell. It opened up and your hair would get in the crack. Then when you raised your head off the gun it would rip out half your face hair.

I've had mine for several years now and have enjoyed shooting it a lot. It's always a hit and one of the guns most of the guys and gals at our local get together shoots want to shoot. It's never given me any issues and its dead nuts accurate with my various cast handloads and red dot sight. I bought two of the ProMag 14 rds. mags recently and it runs those flawlessly.

I got on in 9mm, never have done much with it yet.

I've heard nothing but glowing reports about these, though, in any caliber. I think you're in for a good time.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Hi Point appears to be the Iver Johnson of today. Effective, albeit homely and clunky guns for the common man. Living in a near communist state, a 10 round mag is all that's legal, but I wouldn't hesitate to grab one if it crossed my path at the right price.

I thought I saw cheek risers advertised for those at one time? Might help with the "ouchies".

I had one . 14 rd promags worked fine for me . It was just like the PO FRB , if it fits it ships , in the mags that is . I shot 452-200s , 45-200s , 452-255s , 454424 , and H&G #130 .

6/10 hits on a 146 yd 12×18" steel plate standing off hand .
I don't know that you can ask a lot more from a 16" 45 ACP so inexpensive .

At 50 yd sitting 3 point just me 46 rounds cut a 5' hole in a pizza box .

Is alox tumble lube ok or is powder coating required?

6.9 grains of Alliant Power Pistol appears to be about 10% below what Alliant recommends for a 200 grain jacketed bullet

That may indeed be the ugliest firearm I have ever seen. Maybe, if it was the only gun around to be used to get another gun......well maybe.
