For years (until I got the Lyman 4500 some years back) I had a steady supply of played-out blow-dryers from that Bevy Of Amazons that Marie and I raised. Those did a good job of keeping the 50/50 and Carnauba Red flowing this time of year. As the girls married and gave their husbands grief (instead of me) the blow-dryer side-effect caused by 6 daughters and a wife dryed up considerably. The acquisition of the 4500 and its heater was prompted by this change of circumstances.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
6 daughters, I thought it was 2! My respect for you grows! The estrogen in the air must have been at near toxic levels! My wife is also from a family of 6 girls. Cray-cray runs deep in that river...

Actually, a hair dryer works quite effectively, as heat can be applied directly to those areas that are slow to heat up.

After 2 kids, it's all a blur anyway. Ya might as well have a dozen.

Many years ago we bought a car/ truck engine block heater for well under $10 Still works..
Still see them in yard sales where temps get cold.

Hair drier works fine for me. All I use is soft lube and it doesn't get that cold down here.

I'm surprised to hear that you need a heater for 50/50 lube. That's what I use in my 450. I load in the basement and the temps rarely go about 60f down there. Never had a problem.

Years ago, I read somewhere (unrecalled source) that 50/50 lubes are at their best in terms of flow ability above 73* F. That is consistent with my experience with that stuff, and with C-Red even a bit warmer. Not a LOT of heat, but a little bit makes things run better for me. YMMV, as always.

Another thing to consider is a Kats Model 1153 Handi Heat.
It's a block heater with a magnet in the base.
I just have a piece of steel under the sizer and slap that Kats on there and plug it into a switched outlet.
About 5 minutes or so and the Lars Carnuaba Red will flow easily.
After that just switch it on for about 3 minutes or so every half hour and your good to go.

That Kats looks alot like the block heater we bought years ago at Tractor Supply outside of Danville, ILL-nois. I still use it to eat our lube sizer that has the "hard" stuff.

My Dad mounted a steel plate under a Lyman #45 that extended about 12" past the back of the press. Then placed an old electric iron on top and plugged it in. Within 10min the lube flowed smoothly .
And that was 60+ years ago.
