A favorite saying of a dear friend comes to mind, but fortunately, for me, the terms of membership forbid me from passing it along.

Funny, though.

If he'd been wearing a proper helmet that wouldn't have happened......IF.

Just because you can doesn’t mean you should

Honestly I was waiting for him to overheat the puddle and lose a big glob of white-hot aluminum right onto his tender parts. Denim doesn't even slow down a falling glob of molten aluminum, much less a cotton tee shirt.

That is what I was expecting. A nice hunk of molten metal on his belly.
His boat is in deep doo doo. Not sure a fire extinguisher was gonna help if his gas line ignited.

Yet another example of someone not taking the extra 10 minutes or so to think things through.

Machining, welding, woodworking, hurrying will always cost time, money or both.

That's where I thought that was going, too.

I had to watch the first video twice, i thought he was just inspecting his work at first.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
There's nothing that gets you attention faster than a gob of molten metal in your shoe, down your pants, whatever. Golden memories...well, not so much. Machinery catching fire, that's always a fun time!

I didn't know that, Popper. Is the ignition temp reduced because the oil gasses-off easier as the water begins to steam?

I would think it decreases the flash point by making a more flammable mixture because of the increase in oxygen being able to take in more of the oils vapors.
basically the lower point is because there is more surface area there to burn, kind of like blowing on a fire.

10 minutes......how about 30 seconds.
I started welding for money at age 17, did a lot of it for a year or so. I wish I was still that good,
but I am rusty nowdays. But I learned a number of lessons about safety around hot metal and a
6000F torch.....OWWWW! You know, just wiping a neutral acetylene flame over your hand will
REALLY fry the spot where it goes? Yep, I verified that with actual field testing.:embarrassed:o_O It will
eventually heal, and aloe vera REALLY DOES help both the pain and speeds healing.
And since I was welding outside in Fla in the summer, shorts and Tshirt (with boots)
was the uniform. Worked fine once I got good at it, and careful.
