The Devil's own 6.5 Swede. Other than the SN which may not appeal to some, it looks very nice.
Sold for a bit under a grand.....which is a WHOLE LOT more than I would be willing to pay.

My most recent one, a very nice long rifle, unfettled and pretty nice was $270 about 18 months ago
at a local gun show.

The close-to-1K ballpark is one decadent neighborhood. They are fine rifles, to be sure--but so are Bergaras and Tikkas. I can get all sappy and lyrical over both shotguns and bolt rifles, that I know. The Steyr-Mannlicher SSG in 308 Win was one such inanimate object of my very subjective affections, as were their Professional Series sporting rifles built on that pattern. These were relatively affordable before Steyr got fanged for the dealings they tried with Saddam's regime just before Father & Sons LLC got out-dealt by the A-10s and M1 Abrams Pest Control Co. Poor form, all around. After Steyr and the USA made friends again, the SSG became scarce, over-priced, and did nothing that a mildly-refined Rem 700 couldn't accomplish for a lot less money. So, never mind.

I greatly love and respect the Mauser turnbolts and their controlled round feed geometry. I understand the reasons why CZ did away with their Mauser 98-based 550-series actions and replaced them with the push-feed 557-series. That doesn't mean that I have to like it. Even Winchester finally figured out that hunters and shooters were NOT IMPRESSED with the post-64 push-feed Model 70s, and brought back the CRF form in recent years. Such a succinct grasp of the obvious is not common in corporate America, and should be rewarded.

Speaking of Winchester pulling their heads out of their posteriors just prior to going bankrupt circa 2006, does anyone here have any experience with the FN Model 70s? They are priced a bit out of what I'm willing to pay unless they are really very, very well fitted and made.

A friend bought one a few years back and it was a real shooter, right out of the box. I need to check to
see exactly when it was made but I think it is a Model 70 CRF in the last 5 years or maybe 8.
