One of my best loads for the 7x57. Original sights, although I doubt I could still
do this - my eyes, not the rifle or load. Neck sizing is important with this rifle,
due to huge chamber. This is because they have very little camming ability to close
an oversized cartridge, so chambers on the military rifles were large to accept dirty ammo.

Again, don't think that the RBs are fragile, they are pretty strong actions, but they cannot deal with gas from
a ruptured case well. IMO, this just means to use good brass. If you have some that is getting
incipient head separation, this isn't the action to fire it in. I fire factory 7x57 in my No. 5, and it is
fine. Any Trapdoor level loads should be fine,as long as the brass is sound.

Thanx Bill! New game to me and wanted to make sure I stayed within the safety rules! My brass is very good brass, so no problem there. Not sure yet the chamber size. It is a rebarrel, so shouldn't be dealing the the typical big fat sloppy military chamber (I am very familiar with those). So glad to know that all the Trapdoor level loads I have and use for the Marlin will work. Appreciate all the help here!

Congratulations and I want one.

Thanx! And guy I got this one from has a pickup truck load of them! From Military/Sporters/Custom, Sharps, you name it. He can easily fill two tables at a gun show - and that is with the rifles sitting on the table long table side to long table side, not out flat on the table! One could be yours!

Request. No clue yet what the chamber is like on this rifle. I do not have a 500 grn 45 mold, but would like to try a 500 grn bullet in this rifle. If anyone has 100 cnt 500 grn ~.459-.462" bullets I could buy to try, I would appreciate it. Thanx

so... update on this thread/rifle. It shoots my trapdoor load very well. Do need to put it out to some distance. and, bought another RRB today. Argentine RRB in 43 Spanish. Going to start a new thread on it, as search isn't bringing up anything for 43 Spanish.

Look for used books on reloading 43 Spanish. There have been a couple over the last 25 years. A good one was by a guy named Barker, published by Cistern publishing in TX.

My two cents. These are black powder rifles. Why do we insist on shooting smokeless in them? They work splendidly with black. Even less than optimally sized bullet shoot well with black. We love the look and feel and history of these fine old rifles then turn our backs on the real propellant.

BP is getting harder to find these days. Plus, like most, I'm too lazy to use the correct stuff in cartridge arms.

I found a dozen .38 Special cartridges in the side pocket of my range bag a while back, actually forgot they were there. The case heads were sharpied black, which reminded me they were loaded with 3F Goex. I used to get a lot of guff at the local pistol range because Felix lube and LLA smoked so much, so I had loaded a whole box with something that REALLY smoked. Every time someone would bitch...heheh. Whining is one of the things I don't miss about shooting at someone else's facility.

Klaus,

My .45-70 rolling block is an early Pedersoli/Navy Arms Sporting Rifle, too. The trigger guard, button and barrel band are brass, and the 30" barrel is half-octagon/half-round. Lyman's 405-grain 457193 and 14.7-grains of Unique make it a super accurate all-day shooter.
