I did just what I always tell my son not to do…

I forced something, and it broke…

I was loading some 44mag s to test and was just getting started as this happened on the 2nd case I was sizing. Compared to a lot of cartridges, 44mag require more effort to size so I didn’t think too much of it, just put more effort into it. Pulled the case off the press and the spent primer was still in it. Looked in the bottom of the die and there was a, wait for it…, a bullet in it! Got my wrenches and pulled the depriming stem out and it was a 9mm bullet and of course I broke the pin with no replacement. It’s a Redding die with a one piece stem/pin so nothing to even match it that I know of. Cripes I should have listened to my own advice! Don’t force it, don’t be in a hurry, you’ll just break something and then you’re further behind!

Lucky for me, I have my Dillon setup for 44mag so I just had to get that switched over and I was going again. I just use the single stage for small test batches but I won’t be doing that with 44mag for awhile. Maybe someday I’ll learn.

That briefest of moments, just before you force something - the most fleetingly ephemeral of ephemera,....

Not to sound too sexist (this one's on us males), but it's like that "look" a woman give you, which you catch, but it's so brief, and you think "wait, what was tha.... NAAAWWWW, it was nothin'"

BUT it WASN'T NOTHIN'!

WHEN will we learn?:headbang:

If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks, it needed fixing anyway.

You'll need this, (607) 753-3331. Redding's number for confessional services and wall of shame applications.

I know one graduate of a southern engineering school that practically uses that as his motto.

And on a similar note, I once worked with a guy that tightened every fastener - As far as it would go and then a little bit more.

Learned by the time I was a teen. Don't force it and don't over-tighten.

Little bit of trivia... The original purpose for the use of teflon tape on pipe threads was not so much to seal, as it was to facilitate later disassembly.

Was never meant to seal pipe threads............that's a fallacy. Pipe threads are tapered and as such, need no dope. When the dope is operating the threading machine, then it's a whole nother story. Teflon tape is to be used like anti-seize just not as messy.

I need to check and see if it’s the same size as a Lee universal decapping pin. It’s friction fit the same as the Lee and when I was searching for Redding on Midway the Lee came up.

Can we start a club like the " I shot my Chronograph"

Knock on wood, mine has never taken a direct hit, and I've even shot arrows across it. I am NOT an archer either.

I did have to build a barrier for it to keep debris from black powder and round-ball patches from beating it up though. Still has a few tiny dents on the little plastic screen over the LCD.

Oh jeez lemme count ...... 1 Lee unbreakable in 308 , 2 in universal decapper , at least 3 in dies . Add 2 for expander balls left in cases ....... Just off the top .
