I need a bigger hammer

Get a good bolt gun and learn to run it. High power shooters used to say that bolt gunners didn’t like the AR because they didn’t like having to wait for the action to cycle.

I think a 358 Win would be about ideal. A 375 Win Marlin would be great too.

The 45s need bullet weight to retain downrange velocity. I chased that from here to there decades ago and realized that no matter what we do to the BC a 458 bullet drops like a rock from 100 and beyond unless we start it out fast enough that recoil is a killer.
I remember the late Bruce Bannister [BruceB], telling me about a black bear that went for him at or around 25 feet. He told me he had no idea how fast he was working the old Enfield but happened to notice that there were 5 pieces of brass in the air at the same time. It really is knowing your gun.

Bruce B was left-handed, which likely helped a bit in getting those 5 fired 303 cases airborne at the same time. Ol' Bruce could DEFINITELY make a rifle talk.

What would you consider for a flat-shooting, medium-range pig hammer?

A lot of pontification on this one by some very qualified & intelligent individuals that seem to have come to a close without a solution that meets the standards as outlined. So this sounds like I might be able to offer a solution.

If you can’t win fair in life, .... cheat. Change the requirements. Learn to hunt from horseback. I mean this IS Texas, is it not? On TV, everyone has a horse there. Adds a whole new dimension to the game if you’ve never done it before.

Don’t like that suggestion? Then get you a fake bush for camouflage and by a pair of New Balance to close the distance. Exercise’ll do ya good. Ahhhhhhhh, please post a pic if you choose to go this route. :)

You gotta be extra careful when your bolt gun goes full auto. It's a good thing there weren't any ATF agents around that day.

I think you need a recoilless rifle. Expect to burn about four times as much powder...

Armor piercing incindiary. When Ian lights up a hog he really lights up a hog. I just hope he doesn’t miss and start Texas on fire.

I have a bunch of .50 cal API projectiles, if you need some,
but I am having trouble buying that pigs are that tough. But they
do leave a 12" diam white flash when you hit, so good shot marker.:)

Since these cute little piggies seem to be bullet proof might I suggest . . .

F-15 Eagle.jpg

If they should prove resistant to missiles there are of course larger options. :headscratch:
