i checked my logs from back when.
i sold 103 boxes of 452664's in 96 and only 87 in 97, plus what we shot during those 2 years.
so at least 200, 500 count boxes went through that one mold in 2 years time.
that's 100-K bullets in 2 years for anyone keeping track at home.

you probably didn't run your mold for 4-5 days straight every other week 10-12 hrs a day either.
Who but a commercial caster would????

I about guaranty I cast more then most. Usually few times a week (more in nice weather) and only mold I "wore out" was a lee two cav. Wore out in the sense the pins was loose you could not tighten hing bolt. Rest was "abuse" But as ut was a 20$ mold it was used as such and replaced. Twoo almost tbree years. Untold number of castings... But Id venture a guess better then a 5gal pail of bullets. I still have about 1/3 of a paint pail of bullets from that mold.
I dont place any blame its a cheap mold and I was not overly careful using it. It is a tool and. As such a consumable. I am more careful with higher value items.

the commercial guys run 8 molds at a time to alleviate that issue.
i was just getting going and as such a hundred dollar mold was, as you say, a consumable.
i could replace it by selling 4 boxes of bullets.

since i closed out i still use a lot of those bullets, and currently have a 7 gallon bucket of them in the shop, plus 2 more gallons of them in the gun room.

it's a habit to make too many of the things i use the most, i guess.
i just finished up sizing and checking over 5-K rcbs silh. bullets, they won't get used for anything but making holes in paper, and shooting some rocks somewhere.

A lot of empty space in some of those jars, need to condense them down and make room for more.

I'll bite, Did what?

One of the best Lee molds I have used. I coated the sprue plate with some mold drop out stuff back when I got it. I just cleaned the cavities with kroil and then cleaned them with dawn dishwashing detergent. The bullets dropped right out. Good stuff!
