I replaced my front sight.

I had a fiber optic front sight on my Marlin, 1894 , CBC , 38 Spec. lever action.
The fiber optic sight broke.
I find the fiber optic rifle front sights to be a bit fragile.
I've seen two of them fail.
I measured the height and ordered a new all steel Marble's Front Sight , 3/32" white bead.
This looks to be much more rugged than the fiber optic version.
Today I fit the front sight to the dovetail ( a nice super tight fit ) and centered the sight on the barrel .
I'm happy with the results.

The white bead is your friend.

I like the smaller white beads. I replaced a few of the Marlin gold beads to eliminate glare and get a smaller bead.

Wise choice Ben

Trevor's young eyes can prob see it. Mine (and maybe yours!) sure can't. I use the big flat blades that SKinner Sights sells Combined with their rear peep sight I can DEF see and use them.

On one of the Custom Flintlocks ( "Heavy Bullet Gun" ! on my website) that I built .....My customer insisted on a real "Ivory" insert in the Front sight!
Found some old Ivory Piano keys on e-bay....and got them....had my old machinist friend mill a small groove it the traditional solid black steel sight!
Just enough to insert the piano key veiner into the slot with a dab of epoxy!
That rifle was a real project because In most ways it was a traditional 18th C Firelock But in other ways it was made custom for the man that ordered it!
It even had a false muzzle to start the long bullet! He uses it to shoot antelope at 200yds +
Craziest Flintlock I ever built

JW - was gifted some walrus ivory scrap. Always wanted a front sight with an ivory insert. One day, it is on my bucket and To Do list to make at least one! Prob is, I REALLY want it on a single action Colt clone!

In the same vein of thought, here is the foresight I had installed on my 1895. Supposedly gold but it tarnished a bit so I doubt it.

And this cute little guy came on a 4” barrel I got for one of my 1917s.

Did I mention it was small? I have been spoiled lately with the Model 22-4. Front sight is at least .100 wide with the rear notch to match. I wonder if this front sight could be tig welded wider? If so, widening the rear notch is easy.

You can take everything I know about welding and place it in the bottom of a thimble. I have no idea ? ?

And put it next to mine.

I would get a new front sight before messing with a perfectly good older one.

Oscar,
Can you remove the Front sight? I Think I have pics showing how the insert was put into the milled slot on the custom Firelock

On the rifles, yes. Not on the SA Revolvers... I also want a cpl long range horizontal gold lines put into a cpl revolver sights - but have to take the entire gun to a jeweler to do it...
