I think I was insulated at the range today.

It's funny how dim those 65 watt bulbs these days and how many 100 watt bulbs have found their way into the lamps.....

Hhmmm . . . That sure sounds like what I went through. Have you had your eyes checked by an ophthalmologist? NOT an optometrist. Most everyone gets cataracts, some much worse than others, some much sooner than others. I waited until I was legally blind and three different optometrists told me only to start getting glasses twice a tear. Then went to an ophthalmologist and found out it was cataracts and very correctable. Life changer.

As for the 100 watt bulbs, get LED's and get 100 watt's of light for 18 watts of power.

I can remember years ago when Khornet decided to have cataract surgery. We were preparing for ML deer season. His right eye was getting bad enough that he decided to try shooting lefty. I told the other guys that if he pulled up lefty do drop instantly.

He had the surgery and since then has been shooting righty.

I beleive the consensus is three things happen;
1. Knees buckle but belt won't.
2. Still chase women but don't remember. why.
The third escapes me right now.

Getting a very good chuckle out of this thread. Every thing said so far about getting old is true.

I worry way more about the Macular degeneration. Some where around 35 the BP decided it needed to run 140/95 for normal for no identifiable reason ,most likely a thing refered to as stockbrokers syndrome, end result was macula damage in the left/dominant eye that dropped it from 15/20 to 20/40 in about 18 months . The MD is inherited from dad's side his mother and all but 3 of 12 were blind by 80. His mom gave up her drivers license at 75 . My OD is good but at 20 yr my senior I'm afraid I'll be finding some 30 yo kid to look in my eyes with some fancy pants digital doohicky.

It's funny I went to Sierra Eye Associates ,did the full blown deep search can't see for 4 hr dilation thing . "Nothing wrong with your eyes " ,"why can't I see?","don't know, nothing in your eyes"," how about macular damage"," no,no,no you're far too young for that" , " so for $400 dollars your best determination is that I'm loosing vision for no reason and in only 1 eye ?" , "yep" .......
I don't have a lot of faith in professionals anymore.

Ya my favorite line when I am walking w a bunch of guys of all ages and I am in the back of the group.
One will ask,"are you coming ", my reply is
"I was thinking about asking you the same thing ,I coming around for the second time and you are in my way"

Quicksylver Wasn't sure if it was just the "Cold" you were insulated with.... But Insulted ...Maybe... Everyone knows carbon dating is a bit iffy once you get to 10,000 years! :D

Stuff like this happens to me all the time ( but I do wear a big tag around my neck that states my age and my inability to talk sense with black rifle shooters!) ;)

Rick's right! All the cops I see now-a-days are kids.

Wasn't until I was about 46 that I realized I wasn't really a grown up until I was about 41.

Started over at about 41, so I'm pushing 61 and still have teenage boys. Had a argument with my 16 yr old the other day and he said my knowledge on the subject (how high-school kids think, what they think of and what motivates them) was out-dated.

About 10 years ago I had to start wearing my head-loupe a lot more when machining. One of the younger machinists I worked with said, "You keep wearing that so much it's going to ruin your eyes." He was nowhere near as smart as he thought he was.
Thank goodness as my eyesight has gotten worse, the headlights available for vehicles have gotten brighter.
I've started shooting the Model 65 218 bee more because it's one of only 2 rifles I have that has a scope on it.

Short term memory,,,what was I about to say?????? Oh yeah, short term memory is getting fuzzier while long term memory is getting sharper. But, my memory, both short term and long term is still better than Mrs. smokywolf (she's in her early 40s).

Had to hire someone else to build a new patio cover. Not because I couldn't do it myself, but even though I can still do most of the things I did 20 years ago, it now takes 4 times longer.
One day of landscape work results in 2 days of taking the big ibuprofens and 3 days of walking around the house all bent over.
Ruptured disc, bursitis in shoulders, tendonitis in arms, arthritis in knees and hands.
I think I'm over an inch shorter than I was when I was 25.

On a positive note, I can flirt with the young ladies at Home Depot now, because none take a fat old man serious.

That's funny about the teenage boy thinking you don't get it. Teenage boys navigate with needle #3, that hasn't changed nor will it ever, the rest is irrelevant details.

Biggest issue younger people have is failing to understand that people older than them have already been that age. We know what you are thinking because we thought the same things. Once.

Real wisdom comes when you understand that other people know more about some things than you do.

Yup ! And when I was pre 30 I swore I would not say things like my father would when I brought home a new to me truck or boat.
" I can't believe you paid that much for that. I bought a new one back in xxxx for half the price"
Well I kept that promise to my self, I don't make those comments about the price of new vehicles', but I do find myself
telling all the young ones at the range how much I paid for my AR 15's, M1a, pristine 03's in the early '70's not to mention all the new Smith /Wesson for
under $185.00.
Ruger Black Hawk anyone ,new $85.00 !
No? How about a GI 1911 blued , two tone mags, yes mags ( more than one) in excellent condition, $35.00 ?
Got a 55 gallon card board drum of Winchester 97 Riot shot guns with heat shields and Govt. stamped for $35.00 ea.
Traded one of my Chiefs Specials for an unfired Johnson semi auto.

AND now the real challenge is to find lead?

Starting to sound more like my father every day.

...but you were making what, $2.50 and hour then? I enjoy reading stories from two or three generations ago, same things I hear today about the "good old days" and how great things used to be, I think it's always been that way. My generation's kids will probably one day lament the passing of the days when the .gov actually allowed people to steer their own cars and own more than half an acre per household of real property.

Wasn't at the range today but it's a good thing the house is insulated, went outside this morning slipped & fell . . . Right into Nebraska. 11 degrees isn't fit for humans.

At 30 I realized that I had not set the world on fire, and probably would not!
At 40, I started seeing young cops, teachers, and 2nd.Lt's looking like teenagers.
At 50, I realized I was half a century old (a real eye opener).
At 60, I realized that I was nearing the age of Social security.
At 70, I realized that I was very happy to be 70.
At 77, I realized that in 3 years I will be 80, and am looking forward to same.
As long as there is quality to my life, I will be satisfied with the quantity.

When I was in my mid 20s I started thinking about what I could accomplish to insure that a small part of the world would know and remember that I was here.
Wasn't until I was around 50 that I realized that I would be very satisfied if loved ones think of me often and with good feelings and fond memories.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
For me it's pretty strange how these days cops all look like high school kids.

Yup. But when the little kiddies haven't a clue on how to handle this or that or what to do with something they've never seen on "Cops", who do they turn to? The last few years I worked I got a phone call or 2 every week from people with problems with obscure law. I still had the books my senior man gave me, and he got them from his senior man and he came on in the early 50's. They didn't even have these books at HQ, or else they couldn't find them. I handed them down to one of the "high schoolers" that showed a bit of promise. I'm told they still get used.

Bret, wasn't a slam on cops. Just that the older I get the younger everybody else looks.

I'm at that point that older people still look old although I am starting to see more youngsters.
Bret, isn't it amazing how the young guns at almost any job are full of themselves until they come up against a new problem. I love that opportunity to tell them we have been dealing with that for decades.
We all were essentially the same at that age and were all smart enough to learn from the old guys.
