IDEAL 452374

If your 1911 , 45 ACP won't function with this one, you better start asking some questions.
This is an old IDEAL.
Drops a bit large at .454" but then a lot of the old IDEALS drop large.
Some would say that a single cavity mould in today's casting world is useless.
However, I like my single cav. moulds.
This one will make my 1911 purr.

With much gratitude to S Mac, I, too, have that mould in a single-cavity version. It was originally intended for my son-in-law, but he ended up buying an Arsenal mould, so the 452374 just may mine via a permanent loan. :)

Yes, Ben, those bullets go through the Randall like water through a sieve, and so much so that I've all but quit shooting the 452460 SWC.

I don' t mind single cavity molds and like double's too. I have a number of Lee 6 bangers but really enjoy the casting with the smaller one two or even 4 cavity Noe's. I am not in a huge hurry to cast buckets of bullets.

I don’t use single cav moulds because I am still working.
Paul and I have often discussed this. He trades time for money because he has more time. I trade money for time because I have less time.

If that bullet won’t feed them your 1911 has some major troubles.

How does Trevor like the 1911?

In my world, that is a PERFECT 1911-series 45 ACP pistol.

My sis-in-law's hubby has a Colt NM Gold Cup Series 70 in box-stock trim. As is their wont, it chokes on a lot of SWC and HP bullets, both redcoated and poured. It will digest #452374 with great aplomb and place it with fine accuracy atop 5.0 grains of WW-231, which produces about 790-810 FPS. The load does similar work in my own Series-80 GC and my SIG P-220. This is about a 10% down-load from GI Hardballer specs, and equates to about 4.5-4.6 grains of the much more commonly used Bullseye in 45 ACP. These are sometimes called "softball" loadings.

Another load that (SURPRISINGLY!) runs reliably in Tom's S-70 GC is the WWB 230 grain JHP, which is (nicely enough) my old shop's carry load in 45 ACP. This load was once marketed in the dim and distant past as the Ranger SXT LE load, and before that as The (evil) Black Talon. The black paint and little hooks on the expanded-bullet ad copy were just a bit too much to stomach for admin pogues that didn't get shot at enough as deputies, and the BT didn't get the buy-in from LE that was desired. What to do.....what to do. Dump the black paint, take pics of expanded bullets lacking hooks, and re-market as Supreme Expansion Talon (SXT). BRILLIANT!

It is GOOD AMMO. In 5" barrels it clocks 890-915 FPS, in 4.4" SIGs it runs about 40 FPS less. My practice load uses 5.7 grains of WW-231 to duplicate it, and 16# OEM recoil springs in the Colts get along with it well. These are not rated as +P loads, but are likely at the upper end of standard pressure ratings. Real Ammo, IOW.

This one will do everything that I could ever ask of a 1911 45 ACP.

Thanks,
Ben

Is there a clone of that bullet for the 9mm Luger?
Is there a gun that Trevor doesn't like to shoot? WHAT A SILLY QUESTION!

I loaded these with 4.5 grs. of R Dot with an OAL of 1.260" with Rem 2 1/2 primers.

Should keep my grandson busy for a few minutes.
