In my world, that is a PERFECT 1911-series 45 ACP pistol.
My sis-in-law's hubby has a Colt NM Gold Cup Series 70 in box-stock trim. As is their wont, it chokes on a lot of SWC and HP bullets, both redcoated and poured. It will digest #452374 with great aplomb and place it with fine accuracy atop 5.0 grains of WW-231, which produces about 790-810 FPS. The load does similar work in my own Series-80 GC and my SIG P-220. This is about a 10% down-load from GI Hardballer specs, and equates to about 4.5-4.6 grains of the much more commonly used Bullseye in 45 ACP. These are sometimes called "softball" loadings.
Another load that (SURPRISINGLY!) runs reliably in Tom's S-70 GC is the WWB 230 grain JHP, which is (nicely enough) my old shop's carry load in 45 ACP. This load was once marketed in the dim and distant past as the Ranger SXT LE load, and before that as The (evil) Black Talon. The black paint and little hooks on the expanded-bullet ad copy were just a bit too much to stomach for admin pogues that didn't get shot at enough as deputies, and the BT didn't get the buy-in from LE that was desired. What to do.....what to do. Dump the black paint, take pics of expanded bullets lacking hooks, and re-market as Supreme Expansion Talon (SXT). BRILLIANT!
It is GOOD AMMO. In 5" barrels it clocks 890-915 FPS, in 4.4" SIGs it runs about 40 FPS less. My practice load uses 5.7 grains of WW-231 to duplicate it, and 16# OEM recoil springs in the Colts get along with it well. These are not rated as +P loads, but are likely at the upper end of standard pressure ratings. Real Ammo, IOW.
