The Los Angeles Silhouette Club (LASC) is hosting the 2015 Long Range Handgun World Championship from July 10 through July 17th. I no longer compete but this is the club that I ran for several years so I convinced myself to take a vacation, see some old friends and travel to LA. I'll try and get some pictures to post while I'm there, there will be some impressive 200 meter handgun shooting. Each entry is 80 rounds, 20 at 50 meter chickens, 20 at 100 meter pigs, 20 at 150 meter turkeys and 20 at 200 meter rams. Shoot-offs on the 17th to break ties can be jaw dropping, half size chickens (about the size of pack of cigarettes) at 200 meters for all big bore categories including open sight revolver.

It'll bring back great memories for me from the days before I finally realized that sight alignment via brail just doesn't work. Ah the good ole days.

I'll have to take a look at the competition. Never been to Angeles Shooting Range, but I'm not that far away from it.
Can't go every day, but can probably manage 2 days. Maybe Rick could advise me which day(s) (beside the 17th) will be the most exciting.

Move back indeed, by the time I get to Kingman, AZ I'll have to hold my nose and fight depression because of where I am.

Most days will be about the same, many different categories will be fired concurrently. In addition to big bore there is small bore and air pistol.

Ok, take me out and shoot me. Not a single picture did I take. Very busy week from early morning to late at night with friends from all over the country. Drove over 3,700 miles in 4 days of driving, crossed the stinkin desert and the AC went out in the truck. :( Just got home now at 2:30 AM Monday. I'll post more later, shower & bed time now.

No AC? That makes for a long, miserable drive. I hope the actual time at the championships went better than the drive.

Sorry not to have pix, and no AC in the desert truly sucks.

Spins some good yarns, we are all waiting with bated breath. . . . ;-)

Here is a picture of the LASC range set up at the World Champs taken by someone else (I snitched it off Face Book). The closest targets are swingers for sighting in at 25 yards. The furthest are the 200 meter rams including the half size (next to the swingers).

The toughest part of the week for me was the sales tables. These big matches always have tables full of stuff for sale and there was a hardly ever fired 10 inch FA 41 mag revolver laying there. I need that just about like I need a poke in the eye with a stick but need and want are two completely different things. It had a $1400 price tag and was bought by one of the silhouette shooters just before he was diagnosed with cancer and hardly ever shot, he has passed on now. Another member was selling it for the family. I reasoned that if I used great restraint and let it lay there someone else would buy it and save me from another gun I don't have a need for. It worked, on the last day the guy selling it decided to buy it himself. Saved me $1400 but I sure did want that revolver.

There was a bunch of TC stuff including barrels, grips, forends etc. I looked for Waco but no 14 inch TC forend there.

I no more than got there and got put to work, for 2 1/2 days I was inspecting and certifying guns. They all need to be weighed and inspected for complying with the rules for the category they will be fired in. At least I got to fondle a lot of really great guns.

Thanks for looking Rick! I'm getting by for now with the Pachmyer forend that came with the .223 barrel.
