IMR 8133

I have a chance to get a pound of 8133 in a trade along with a pound each of IMR 8208, 4198 and 4451. Last three I know I’ll use but not sure about the 8133. I’m confused because they show loads for 7mm rem mag and all of the really big magnums but nothing for 300wsm or 338 win mag. (my largest cartridges) Could somebody explain to me why this wouldn’t work with any heavy for caliber bullet in the smaller cartridges? Maybe I’ll just skip the 8133 if I can’t use it...

Probably a burn curve thing that doesn't play nice with bore to case dia rates . There's probably 458 data but nothing in 30-35 cal ............

I found loads for 243 and 6mm with bullets in the 108gr range (heavy for caliber) and also 300 Win Mag, 200gr and up, all from the IMR -8133 page. I’m sure it could be used in my 300wsm or 338winmag so I think I’ll get it and keep my eyes open.

Really makes me wonder if this would work in a cartridge like 22-250 with bullets in the 75-90 gr range. I know those bullets would never stabilize in a 22-250 with it’s slow twist so it’s just a curiosity...

The 22-250 is a strange animal. That huge case/tiny bore equation should favor slower powders, but in the range of usable bullet weights in the 1-12" to 1-14" twists found in the 22-250s my two best powders have always been medium-speed fuels......IMR-4064 and H-380. WW-760/H-414 is OK but not as good as the former two fuels.

I like AA-2700 in the 220/22-250 hmm, and the 7.7 and 300 savage.
with jacketed bullets of course.
with cast they all seem to get 4895, I really could use another jug of 2700 though.

Hmmm. Really? Maybe I'm missing out by excluding slower fuels. H-380 was an instant success in the caliber for me, superb accuracy and proper velocity without drama. Add in that it meters so nicely, it's near-perfect. I tried IMR-4064 "Because it is the classic 22-250 powder", and it did good things like H-380 did, though it doesn't meter as smoothly as the ball powders do. It shot well, right with the H-380. I'm talking about 4 different rifles over the years here, 2 of which still reside here. The tries with 760/414 didn't get the velocities I sought without scary primer indicia, and threw fliers as well. Again, 4 rifles involved. This said to me that 'Slower fuels might not be indicated here', and I stuck with H-380 for 52/55/60 grain bullets.

I only own one .22-250 but my experience with it matches yours Allen.
It likes IMR 4064 and H-380 both.
However, it positively dotes on Reloder 15 with the Hornady 55 gr V-MAX.

I’ve always used 3031 in my 22-250 with 50 or 52 gr bullets and will probably never change... Maybe the 8133 will be a good trade powder.

I've sorta eyeballed CFE-223 in the two bigger cases too, I shoulda sucked it up and just bought anther jug or two of that when it was just sitting there at like 180 bucks.
