Nice equipment, I think you'll be pleased and find casting easier and with better results. It's always good to use nice tools.

it doesn't matter if they are casting, reloading, or construction.

I just started with the Lyman 500 gr mold today (the 45-70 Govt). Ran temp up to 750 on the little Lee bottom pour. Automatically threw the first 12 back in the pot to heat the mold. Then ran off 50 boolits. Had a total of 4 too light (more than 1 gr less than average, and one too heavy, 45 were all plus or minus .5 gr!!! The best consistency I've ever had. Kept the thermonitor in the pot so temp was not varying. Been pouring 38's for years. The only annoyance was the sprue plate loosening on a regular basis.

Welcome Renegade, good to have you with us. :)

I too throw back the first several casts even when pre-heating the mold on a hot plate. Nothing like a properly heat soaked mold. Plus or minus a 1/2 gr on a 500 gr bullet is outstanding to say the least.

You can get a #6 or 8 fine thread drill/tap combo and a package of stainless steel machine screws or set screws for a few bucks at the home store and make a pivot screw lock that will fix that annoying loosening and also allow you to tension the sprue plate exactly to your liking.

Here are a couple of ways to do it, I reversed the blocks on the newer mould on the right and had access to the end of the block while it was off the handles.
