Inside ream prior to sizing?

Folks, if one was to take a straight walled case of a longer length and cut it back, would it be better to size, trim to length, then inside ream?

Say you started with a .414 Supermag, 1.610 long, and you wanted to create .41 Mags at 1.290 [no, I am NOT cutting any of my .414 SMs! Just an example!!!].

Size the cases [or not, diameters should be the same], trim down to 1.290 [the Horror! The Horror!], then inside ream to acount for thickness variations [414 SM probably is thicker at 1.290 than the .41 Mag].

Depends on how much external taper the resized case would have, and the size of the reamer relative to the ID of the unsized/sized case. Inside reaming doesn't work like you think it might, the case stretches flat between the flutes so the amount cut depends on amount of interference fit, brass hardness, and how many times the reamer is rotated.

I trimmed super mags down to 44 mag for my SRH, actually made them a bit long. Didn’t ream at all and no problems.

I got that idea from Rick who I believe used that concept when shooting sillywet. Those guys know what does or doesn’t work and Rick was a pretty damn good shooter.
