JJ Cale, never heard of him, watched a vid. Tune reminded me of 'Gloria' with a twist. Nobody mentioned Janice, Baez, Jordanairs, Mary Martin, Bach, Beethoven, Mozart? Beetle stuff before Ona. SRV style of fingering is interesting, his 'origin' of CM is BS. Ventures are interesting. Saw the heehaw guy early in Ca., went by the 'onion' place frequently, just sit outside and listen.

No, but you been listening to songs he wrote and recorded for 50 years. "Cocaine", "After Midnight", "Magnolia", "Call me the Breeze", etc., all covers of Cale's originals.

"Cocaine" one that I watched and the 'gloria' ref - tune -not the vocal. Mom made us take piano from Leta Wallace in KC - who told Mom to save her $ (me). Mom did piano & organ, met Dad who was Stevens (women's) glee director (side job for school $ + waiter + trombone + choir). Mom got me a clarinet I played in Jr. H., got a 5$ flattop & Mom got some colodian for the fingers but geetar is NOT an accepted instrument. Fun trying to karioki with the radiidio. Got myself a cheap Silvertone elec. and should have taken lessons. Still can hardly read music.

Country is ok in small doses . I guess maybe I'm a Rockabilly country kind of guy .
I mentioned classical but didn't specify the composers mostly because I wasn't into it enough to put a particular piece to the writer.

I'm fond of the artist that play covers of songs well on instruments never intended to cover such . Thunder struck on cello , bag pipes , or banjo for example . Acoustic remixes of Billy Idol played by Stevie Steve and Billy are pretty amazing too .

Marilyn Manson .......there's a guy that ruined the Eurythmics which weren't all that great to begin with , sweet dreams comes immediately to mind .

Though not knowing a thing about it, I listen to the local classical station a lot, when casting. The volume is kept at a level to be just discernible. That said, I do not like opera.

A group playing flattop and Dobro guitars, mandolin and banjo will grab my attention. What I would call Americana.

Star wars , Tommy , Jesus Christ Superstar and at least 4 Styx albums were in fact by definition operas .......... Not that shreiky Italian stuff but a series of songs that performed in sequence and or as back ground to a particular character roll tell a story and/or inspire or enhance imagery . The Mr Roboto album was obvious but even Paradise Theater fits the mould and that actually makes me sad , some of my favorite youthful ......... moments were set to an opera vs rock n roll .......

RB,
Thanks for the musical education.
Not a Star Wars, nor science fiction, fan, though I reluctantly saw the first one, only heard "Pin Ball Wizard" and "I Don't Know How to Love Him" (think that's the title) on the radio, and don't know a thing about Styx the band, but do know about Styx the river.
But, it is that "shreiky Italian stuff" that I do without.

Band geek ..... No other excuse for those tidbits . There are of course many others , probably several Bob Sieger albums .

Drum major jr. and sr. years, state-level solo multiples, college band, "glory days". Not an ounce of musical talent but could play just about every instrument in a band hall with rote precision.
