is the 9mm gonna be the death of the 40 short?

I'm just shocked Rick was ever a brass rat!;)

I have a fairly strict no brass left behind policy. Our gun club is high volume, & I enjoy getting enough brass & lead to make our range dues irrelevant.

I remember a few years back everyone crying about ammo, brass, & components shortages. I laugh & keep laying by as much as feasible. My family is insulated from that nonsense pretty well.

I tend to pick up all I can. If I can't use it the next it goes in the scrap brass bucket. Worth a couple bucks a pound at the scrap yard.

My dept. picked up brass and reloaded it too. 38 sp. and 357mag. until we went with 40 S&W Glocks in the early 90's. Then it was aluminum Blazer for practice and qualification and Issued W/W 180 HP's or Gold Dots. All were sold to scrappers but no one minded if you took a few for your own use.

I have literally thousands of FC match .223Rem brass from swat training that was just left on the outdoor range. It isn't my favorite brass but the price was right.

I am not a fan of the 9mm, and even less of the flakes at the FBI that keep giving us studies that don't match real life experiences. They were the ones that gave us the 90gr. high speed 38 loads that their computer models said were "most effective" Then with egg on their faces and dead and injured agents said oops and brought out the 158 +p+ loads.....and pushed for the 10's. The push for the 9mm is based on "people of small stature" having difficulty handling sharp recoil of the various 10's and the fact that 9mm's are better than they used to be. They even modified their test criteria and performance standards to show how right they are. My guess is there will be 10mm S&W ammo available for many more years than I have left.

I carry a 10 short, I am comfortable with the gun and caliber. If you like a 9 or a .380, or a 32 or 22.......it is your decision. After all, the very first rule of a gun fight.....is bring a gun.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
As Deputy Al coined it "The Famous But Incompetent" pretty much sums up my feelings on the organization as a whole. Met a few good FBI guys and gals over the years, and a lot of not so good ones, but at the organizational level they were right up there with OSHA, BATF and some other alphabet outfits. Changing the criteria to give the results wanted? Thats SOP for a lot of places these days!
