Hello guys
Local shop has one of these on close out for $629.
Are these a pretty good pistol?
Never had any experience with Kimbers.
This one is the aluminum frame gun.

Thanks you!

I can't speak to that particular model but I've owned a few Kimbers over the years and they make a decent pistol.
I had an aluminum framed, Commander length Kimber with a stainless steel slide. It shot well and held up well. I wouldn't be afarid to buy an aluminum framed KImber but if you intend the gun to be used for high round counts, a steel frame would be more desireable.

Kimber makes a good pistol. Some of their lower priced models use some plastic and MIM parts to keep the cost low. This isn't a huge concern but you have to cut corners somewhere to hit a price point.

I bought a Kimber "Custom Target" 1911 in 45 ACP in '95, or thereabouts. It was $500 or $550 then and was a bargain, because it was really a nice gun. I mean, it worked right out of the box. No fussing, no fiddling. It really was a decent gun and accurate. This one was all steel.

This one seems very tight and well made.
I don’t plan on shooting it to death but just casual shooting and vermin control.
I really like the thought of the fiber optic and lighter weight.

At $630 that Kimber is priced above the Turkish and Philippine made 1911 pistols and below most Springfield Armory and other 1911 clones.

If you like the pistol, I don’t think you can go too wrong for that price. I’ve been impressed with the quality that Kimber puts out in their price range and at $630, you are getting a decent break in the going rate for that pistol.

And, I bought a RIA, all steel "Officer's Model" for $400 or $450 four or five years ago and it was really nice. I had to do nothing to this gun either, it was accurate and reliable, so I'd put it on par with the Kimber I mentioned earlier.

Grab it. I have owned several Kimbers and competed with them. The only problem with the aluminum frame is the trigger bow shaves a trench in the tracks and gets very gritty over time. I've polished one of mine out twice now, but it's had probably 12-15K rounds through it in competition. Strangely, if you keep the slide and frame rails oiled, they don't seem to wear out. Neither does the slide stop pin hole or any other part, just the trigger bow ways.

Good grief. Don't they know that if a CCW holder were bent on doing a crime with a pistol, they have one at hand already?

Anyway, glad you got it and I'm sure you'll love it.

Same story in Kalifornistan--10 day wait on ALL firearms.

I've only handled one Kimber 1911-series so far, it belongs to a friend. Custom II Target, it is a nice pistol.
