I am interested in one. Two questions before I commit:

how much lead does one pot hold? I guess that depends on how high up the tanks were cut?

And what do you ballpark the shipping will be?

Dimmer shipping I have no idea on the last one I sent out was around $18 but that was 2 years ago as to how much will it hold I cut the tank about 2 inches above the center weild I have never weighed one but just guessing 2 to 3 hundred pounds D Crockett

A cut-off 20lb tank (just below the top shoulder) holds WAY more than any of us want to lift. The one I have has a huge steel washer welded on each side so that I can insert a 1" steel bar suspended on each end on a pair of axel-jack stands. It also has a spout and a lid and can be suspended slightly above the burner in a way that allows me to tip it to pour (if I so desire).

I will go to the post office on Monday to get all shipping cost as of now all 6 have been spoken for. I hope each and everone of you get good use out of this smelting pot . just to let everyone know I have been using one of these for over 25 years . and blackthorn you are right I would not want to pick up one of these pots full of lead . happy casting D Crockett

If you have never used one of these pots - Yes it will hold WAY more than you want to lift! AND more than a turkey burner will support if not careful! I did not bust my burner, but I thought I was going to! I kept adding sticks as it melted, and then DUH! realized I had WAY too much weight on a turkey burner! Go slow/easy and pay attention to how much weight you have! and, mine has a chain handle welded to it.

I made a frame out of old bead frames for my burner I did that so long ago I forgot all about it if you think you will have a problem get it braced up and be safe that is the most important thing in casting lead be SAFE D Crockett

You just made the light bulb go ding in my mind. And this has me to thinking some I’ve been needing a larger smelting pot. The first one I made was out of a Freon bottle cut in half. I’ve got ideas now.

I bought one of these from D. Crockett some years back. It has given good service and is light years ahead of cast iron for smelting.

My pot was cut after I removed the valve and filled the tank with water. While still full, I took my angle grinder with a cut-off wheel and cut about a 4" hole around where the valve used to be. Then, I lay the tank on its side and cut it off just below the top shoulder.
