Lee auto drum

Anyone use these? I got one for doing 223 and it is not consistent at all. It is swinging about 1.5 grs either direction. This is with RL10x powder. It is a very small extruded powder. It is brand new, I have only used it to get it set up. But if it is going to be way off like this it is going back.

Sorry for your bad luck. Both of mine work very good.
I assume you have checked for looseness between the upper and lower pieces.

I chucked mine straight in the trash. I can make most of Lee's stuff work great with a little tuning but not this thing. The flimsy plastic linkage won't stroke the correct length to make the drum swing the full range and it leaked powder everywhere. Also the spring is so strong that it bends the cast frame at the bottom and collapses case necks. I adjusted the drum tension and checked the rack gears for proper timing, conclusion it's just garbage through and through so it went into the landfill.

The Pro Autodisk is much better and will throw heavy charges with the double disk kit accurately if you tape the discks securely together.

I have a auto disk and the double disk kit. But it does not have the return setup for a turret. It uses the chain. I guess I could buy the stuff I needed if I have to.

Something similar happened to me a couple of yrs. ago on a bad Lee product.

I returned the item to them ( more $ out of my pocket for their bad quality control ) & I asked for my money back and they sent me a " Gift Certificate " that I later used to buy some Lee Dies that I needed.

Spring return kit is like $5, and it works.

Right before I bought a lathe I traded a member here to make me an adapter to mount a Lyman 55 on top of a Lee powder-through die (I use the riser with it on the turret). I think the Hornady measure would be the easiest good quality rifle measure to set up on any normal press with the appropriate charge die and not having to make custom parts.

The drum is not returning all the way. There is just too much slop in the gear system and lever to make it return the whole way each time. Anyone try to adjust the gears to alter the throw?

Yes, I explained rhat I was having similar issues and it seems there's a design flaw in the stroke length or like you say too much tolerance stacking. It's probably hopeless on that one if you already got one that does work. Maybe Lee changed the design of the reset mechanism on the linkage?

I switched it over to for pistol and it works perfect. It has to be the small charge that is thrown. This is with power pistol.

I might try to see if H335 works. But my rifles really like rl10X and imr4895.
