Lee C309-170F

Got this mold today and cast some to see how much the resulting bullet weighed. With the alloy I had in the pot (WW/Pure) they cast out to a uniform 175gr to 175.2. I got the mold from a fellow in Calif that said I could keep the mold if I liked it. I like it, but I'm going to send him a $20 remittance for his kindness.

That is a great bullet.
Very similar in performance to the Lyman 31141 ( 311041 ).
Good in a wide variety of .30 cal. rifles.
You did not mention what they drive bands mike ? ?

You'll like it.

The bands measured .309 and I plan to primarily use them in my Ruger American .308 . Probably use PC without a GC. Some I'll use Ben's Red and BLL as a final coat, and again with a GC. Anyone have a favorite receipt they'd like to share? I have IMR 4198 and 4895 + some 3031. Of course I have Unique and will load some as reduced power loads.

Got em PC'd this morning and I used a piece of Walnut as my cast holder. A lot of hole drilling then covered the plank with Al Foil; punched some holes then stood the cast nose down in the hole. With "shake n bake" the nose was covered with PC and it cured as well, no line on the cast at all. I can PC and bake 176 at a time with this plank. Now some BLL and they're ready to go.

So far, everything cast that I've run through the mag of my Ruger American has done so without a problem. that includes the Lyman 311041.

Just GC the PC and shoot them. No need for a BLL overcoat. H335 & H4895 work fine, Hodgdon jacketed loads. & you get a few extra fps.

Do you mean that the 309 and 311 aren't compatible in the same gun? Actually I resize EVERYTHING I shoot in my .308 win Ruger American including the .309 I just PC'd.
Popper; don't you know; everything's better with BLL on it. :p
