It was a Garden of Eden in the early 1960's. We Waterskied there at least 6 times a year, Only no fishing. But you could float very easily.

In later years it was a great place to Hunt Ducks, Mallards & Pintails would rise up out of the Fed. Preserve and just float into our dekes.

It was a GREAT corvina fishery until the mid-1970s. We went there quite a bit as a family in the late 1950s and early 60s. Hunted and fished around it mid-60s through the present day. I have taken a ton of mallards and pinnies out of Unit U-12 and U-14 over the years, which my partners enjoy eating. I prefer the teal. I have no idea how many doves I have taken out of Wister Unit.

My experience with Remington warranties also. Bought a new 700 Varmint in 308 Winchester in 1995. Both chamber was off axis and the bolt face was crooked. Send three fired cases that rolled on the table, the neck made ovals as they rolled. Sent it back on my own dime, and they billed me postage to return the rifle. "Rifle is within our specifications." Never own another Remington anything.

p.s. And I tell this story ever time it come up about Remington warranties.

I have to agree with you, Ric, only an ancient, rusty #4 roller and a decent Wingmaster live here.

Not much Big Green in my gun safe, either. The few examples I have are all pre-1980.

The Big Green I prefer comes from Oroville, CA. Lots of that on my loading bench and casting table.

Dad 700 BDL is without a doubt the most consistent rifle in the clan . Circa 1972 bull barrel 25-06' basically an M40 in 25-06 in a walnut stock .
Mom has an 870 in 20 ga hasn't had a box of shells through it in 10 years .
No complaints about the 760 really . I mean it is what it is and that's a really fast brush gun that's good for 3moa .
I could complain about the Model 14 but after I got the brass figured out about 3 yr before it became readily available for 32 Rem it was a fine rifle ........ discontinued in 1935 but still a pretty good deal .

I've been using a Qtip to put a light coat of Super Lube Synthetic grease on the hinge pin, forend iron and locking lugs of my SxS. Sometimes it gets a light spray of RemOil as well. I tend to use WD40 on the outside as a protectant, but never on the inside.
As far as Big Green goes, mine are all older guns. 870 Wingmaster 20 ga. is old enough that it was built on the 16 ga frame. 870 Express was from one of the early runs. The M700BDL 270 is from 1972 and features a PacNor barrel and B&C Mountain Rifle stock. 700ADL 223 is from the days of the lock on the cocking piece(whatever they called it). It would hardly chamber a round when it was new, the extractor was too tall and would cave the rim in on the cartridge case. Had to grind it down to make it work. Replaced the extractor with a new one and had the same problem. Double checked and there wasn't any trash in the groove it fit in. Guessing the groove isn't deep enough. Talked to a Remington Rep at Sportsmans Wharehouse about it and he answered, never heard of such a thing as he turned and walked away. Never again.

Summer late 1980's we were in the Anza Borrego area and later the public side of the Chocolate mountain gunnery range chasing jack rabbits and coyotes around. We stopped in at one of the bars/restaurants that was located on the Salton Sea for lunch or a drink in the middle of the afternoon. It's a hundred and ten plus when we pull into the parking lot and there are a bunch of overly skinny guys and gals standing by the waters edge wearing fur coats. Turns out they were doing some company's winter catalog shoot with the Salton Sea and the mountains as a back drop. It didn't look like good duty. To stay on topic the only over under shot gun I've owned was a Ruger Red Label and the only side by side is a Beretta Silverhawk that's older than I am. They both get treated about like most things that get lubed. A bit of Cam lube and a drop of oil every once and a while.

Those weren't photo models. They were Bombay Beach locals. They get into layered clothing any time the temps go lower than 105*.
