"Likes"

I haven't been particularly impressed by the "like" or "thank" buttons I've seen on several other internet forums and frankly thought they were silly, but here I'm starting to take a different view of it and the feature seems appropriate. There's a little bonus to being able to let someone know quickly and easily that their post was especially helpful, insightful, funny, appropos, or whatever, and to know if someone particularly "liked" one of mine. Anything to promote good fellowship I'm all for, and the "like" button seems like a good way to encourage it.

My first thought on the "like" button was . . . How Face Bookish which is one of my least favorite places on the net. I've tempered my feelings on it some, as long as it doesn't turn out like a thread rating system which some abuse and rate every thread one way or the other regardless of content. At least this is for individual posts and not the entire thread. With a thread rating system the entire thread is rated, the ridiculous posts right along with the useful ones.

"facebookish" is exactly what I thought the first time I noticed the feature on another forum. YUCK. But if you don't think of it in that context it's actually a pretty good idea.

I better apologize right off the bat...my first post here at "ASBC". I like the "LIKE", I am a facebook fan. It helps me keep in touch with my Daughter and SIL ...and my liberal Brother and his family. I can get all my political and religious arguments out of my system there, with others that like to SHOUT IT OUT, so I don't desire to bring them where they are not wanted.

Is it any different from a bunch of +1 posts? I see them as the same thing.

I just refer to it as "The Bullet Casting Board". The full name can be a bit of a mouthful.

If I didn't have a daughter I would have no FB account. Seems if ya want to talk with a daughter ya go to FB cause that's where she is, nose buried in a smart phone.

Not me, I have a daughter but no FB. We text or FaceTime to communicate. Those are smart phone/iPad things Rick.

Social media has a place, it just needs to be kept in that place. For all too many it gets out of whack in importance and becomes the sole way people communicate.
What kills me is how easily people will believe what they read online and how easy it is for "celebrities" to sucker people into buying the BS they spew.

I had a FB page, got rid of it. My sense of humor doesn't translate well to the written word. Seems sarcasm is awful close to just being an ass to many. I don't miss it.

No, I just grew weary of the BS. I had blocked my coworkers to avoid that drama. I just decided I didn't need to know what people had for lunch or what new movie they watched.
Other than to keep in touch with people out of town I see little use for it. I replaced that functionality with text messaging.
