All that for $170.00 out the door.

2400 is NOS full and heavy

IMR 4198 is NOS and full

4895 3/4# Powder looks good

231 3/4# Powder looks good

Unique 1/2# Powder looks good and it’s a cool old can. This one was only two bucks!

That comes out to $15.45 a pound.

I haven’t used IMR 4198 before, though I’ve seen it mentioned quite a bit. Do you guys have any opinions on IMR 4198, when used in 30-06, .303 British, or 7.7x58mm?

Imr 4198 was the first powder I used when I started with bullet casting. I used it in the .30-06 with the Lee c309-180, from 25-34 grs. 34 grs is pretty hot, I think. It worked well for me.

I 4198 is good in the .30-30 Winchester, 300 Blackout, 45/70, and a host of others.

That 231 is the GOOD stuff before Hodgdon bought them out and tried to duplicate it unsuccessfully. Absolutely the best stuff there was IMO for 45 ACP/230-grain ball or cast.

H4198 was considered a very good cast bullet powder in the 1970's and 80's. It is very smooth starting and predictable and was used for heavy bullets in the calibers you list. I normally would start at 15% over listed A2400 loads. It is my go to powder for the 40/50 Sharps Straight.

Ian,
I have been loading the Lee 452-230-2R-TL over 5.3gr of Ramshot Zip. Many think that Zip is a close copy of 231. That's why I picked up the 231. I will switch to the 231 when I've used up the Zip.

Ric,
That's good info, 15% over A2400. Thank you

Josh
