Look what I found

1680 has been stable in the reduced rifle loads I have tried it in.
I shot some 30-06 loads using H-110 a while back and was a bit nervous about doing it but had no hang fires.
the 1680 I tried at the same time shot better [actually quite accurate] but I decided I'd keep what I have for the super-mag revolvers.
I tried some plain base loads in a friends 38-55 [marlin cowboy] with 9.5 grs of unique and they shot quite well [I think that is a maximum load] but it was soft shooting and plenty accurate.

Did you use a filler with the 1680?
It shot OK for me but the velocity variations were huge. Like 150-200 fps over 5 shots huge.
I can see where I have lots more testing to do. Too bad the rifle isn't drilled and tapped for a scope. The receiver sight isn't bad but it isn't a scope.

If it had been drilled and tapped at the factory it would have a scope. I will not have it drilled and tapped in my lifetime.
I will be replacing the front sight with a smaller, white bead. The hood on the front sight is also going to be removed, I just don't care for them.

I wasn't aware of how light a Win 94 was. The recoil pad on this rifle is thin and between that and a the light weight it can be a real thumper if I want. I don't want.

You might toy with the idea of putting a Beech sight out there on the bisiness end and save the more potent loads for hunting.

Winchester made a few Angle Eject in 375 that were drilled and tapped. Would need a side mount for the top eject, I would not do it either.

I didn't in the 30-06 i tipped the cases back and just shot them for accuracy.
I didn't do a big work-up or anything I just threw a bunch of different loads together and tried a bunch of different powders I had kicking around burning them up.
I figured if I seen something worth pursuing I'd go after it,,,, if not [shrug]
I found tipping 2400 loads in the 0-6 improves groups too.

my whole scientific test revolved around burning up the last 3-4 oz's of powder I had, and those I had a bunch of on hand, and some similar powders just sitting there for other stuff
I tried the 4227's, H-110, I-4198,h-322,aa-2230, alcan-5, steel,800-x, blue-dot, sr-4756,a#9, AA-2495, 4350, IMR and AA-4064, unique, international, and regular clays, and a whole bunch of others trying to get near 1900 fps [or the appropriate speed for the real fast powders]
I mostly just made up 10 to 20 rounds of each one, and shot groups using the same rcbs 30-150 fngc boolit the rifle seems to like the best.
nothing scientific, just shooting and seeing what happened.
none of them done much better [and not too many shot much worse] than 2400 and a regular ol winchester large rile primer does.

so what I really learned was I could buy just about anything close to something else and get similar results right from the start to the same [and maybe a little bit better] results by tweaking things a little bit.

I'm not sure about anything you said there but it sounds about how I figure.

Brad that's a nice rifle. I'm pretty sure I looked at it in the store. I would also be downloading a bit for that.
