The power ring on this scope "was" hitting rear base. This,BTW is how you can recut the reciever side of bases to fit specific needs....20190506_103058_resized.jpg

I'd be like mask off the action and Dremel Dremel Sharpie Sharpie without even removing the base from the rifle, but then again I don't have a mill with a "dial-a-cut" boring head. I do have the beech 1x4 and wood screws though, LOL! Nice work.

I probably wouldn't have even thought about the dremel.
it would have been file/draw/file/draw... tap tap... chalk.

wait... is that a savage?
they don't even use a hex key to take the bolt apart now?
you just use a big honkin screw driver..

"Big honkin screw driver" made me LOL!
My dad used to say that all the time. Thanks for the rush of memories!

It's an old, flatback reciever..... before the socket head.

And that ain't beech,it's upstate NY cherry.

Look up,Savage "bolt lift kit" for lightening effort to...... uhh, lift the bolt. The way they come from the factory is pretty durn Fred Flintstone, and that's being nice.

Nat Lambeth down in NC has probably the "slickest" way to do it,and may help the search. But,that's for the new socket cap "big screw" models.Whichever method you use,it's a heck of a lot easier to lift bolt..... more of a BR idea so as to not disturb the rifle whilst in the bags. But useful on any Savage... and just a nice, easy Saturday project.

BTW,that BP mill was less $$ than a "bar tab" by some of the more serious playa's. You just need to be ready to travel.... I went 8hrs round trip, which is nuthin for the right piece.
