I bought this 2 cav., Lyman 311465 mould from S Mac.
The mould arrived today.
Might be good in my Ruger # 1, Stainless steel, 30-30 Win. ? ? ?
If this rain will ever stop, I'll be casting with the mould.
Thanks S Mac for a nice mould.

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
The blue cavities are the result of holding the blocks in the melt, after a lapping. Thanks Ben.

I have almost zero throat in my Ruger # 1 30-30, the 311465 has almost no nose on it. the two factors should compliment each other well .

The length of a 311465 is short and shouldn't be a problem with the gas check extending below the neck of the 30-30 case.
This combination may have some potential ? ?
Some people say the faster you push the 311465, the better it shoots ? ?

I got outside and cast with the Lyman 311465 today.
The nose ( what little of it there is .... ) mikes .3005"
Gas checks are snug and crimp on nicely.
Bullets size out to a nice round .310" dia.

( In earlier trips to the range testing my Ruger # 1, 30-30,
it seemed to have a preference for a .310 cast bullet, hence
my choice to size to .310 " )

These may shoot just fine ?

Sized, lubed and ready to load :
2 lower rings with lube only.
Then the bullets are rolled in Ben's Liquid Lube.

I don't shoot well from a boat.
Much more rain and it will be boats only here in Alabama.
When this rain stops , these will be loaded and ready for the range.

Nice bullets!
I have the NOE- clone of this bullet, a mould with two GC and two PB- cavities. It has shot well for me in my .308. I have plans to shoot it some more in the near future, with powder coat maybe.

my 30-30 bolt guns love this bullet. [well a slightly heavier version anyway]
the lever rifles are okay with it too but it has to be seated much deeper.
I keep it in the bolt guns, I got another mold the lever guns are happy with so no big deal.

Rifles seem to be like people.
Each with a slightly " different taste " .

I have 20 rounds loaded for my Ruger # 1, 30-30, using 2400 powder.

Using this OAL, my action on my Ruger # 1 , 30-30 allows the barrel's
rifling to lightly imprint the bullet's nose.

Look close and you'll see where the rifling is engraving the nose of the bullet when the breech is closed.

This Ruger # 1 is a very accurate rifle ! !

Yep--about like a city street curb edge. This seems to be a feature of the 30/30 and a lot of black powder era calibers, esp. in leverguns.

The end of the rifling isn't very far from the end of the case neck.
I have very few .30 cal. moulds that will cast a bullet that can be seated
to the crimp ring and it still chamber. The nose comes into contact early
with the rifling and the round will not chamber.

A long standing problem with many 30-30's.

Ben is this one of the newer run rifles?
I believe it is since I think the last run [before it] was only 2 years and come in blue.[98-99?]
the L-S series was a one year thing and come all in stainless [2009 or 13 comes to mind]

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
The 30-30 has several odd duck characteristics, and yet it usually works great. Get any of the older data and even some of the older bullets and you'll see references or print on the box of the jacketed bullet being .309, not .308. Weird.

Yes, I think you're right. I had a friend that bought one about 7 yrs. ago , it was blued.
I bought this one at the Tulsa show about 2 yrs. ago.
The seller said it was a limited run rifle and few were made.
I think Lipsey's is where mine came from.

WOW !
.309 Jacketed is a bit unusual.
