Lyman 311467 Plain Base HP's

I cast these this afternoon.
A super accurate bullet out of many of my .30 cal rifles.
If you're buying Hornady .30 cal. gas checks now ( $36.87 and unavailable from MidWay ) , that price makes my plain base moulds that I own look better and better all the time.
Plain base cast bullets certainly do have their velocity limitations. With that said, they serve my needs well.

When I bought the mould, it was my opinion that the HP pin was far too long.

A Dremel tool can take care of that problem.

Great looking bullet, I too prefer the shorter pin. I would be afraid with the longer pin wouldn’t the bullet practically explode on contact? Maybe the original owner intended that. Ben, I hope your weather is like mine today in MS, great casting weather and I saw an 8 point in the backyard about an hour ago. My time of year!

Ben, I was gifted one of those molds that was Hp by buckshot ( I and who gifted it Believe) I have cast with it one time and the noses wont fill out perfect every time, everything else is fine bases, driving bands but the nose will have a slight cup to it on one side or the other. Do you have that issue at times? I'm wondering if it is the Pin is a hair too large, or its something I'm doing. my pin tapers all the way into the pin hole it doesn't have a shoulder like yours, so the HP has a very sharp edge. I have thought about making a new pin for mine to try that had a little shoulder to it. fortunately I can change the pin so I may have to make a modification.

Yes, I would say you could benefit from a smaller dia. Pin at the nose.
I have sent you a PM.
