Picked up this 8mm mold. Someone wire brushed it.

What is the history on this mold as to why it has so many lube rings? Was it intended for the 7,9 Mauser or something else?

Have you cast with the mould to see if there are issues that are related to the wire brushing ?

Not yet, I was planning on it this weekend . . . Wait, it's my Anniversary. Yeah, I've learned after 28 years I better spend the whole weekend with momma!

I'll post here as soon as I can drop some lead.

that's the mold I been fighting with for a week plus now.
I didn't remember having it, but I'm thinking someone sent it to me or I got it stupid cheap.

Its well liked and recomended if ya look on many forums.

I bought mine because the those recommendations as well as suggestions from guys here. I have t shot them as yet.

Ya gotta cast it to see what damage was done.

Loverin designs benefit greatly from up-ticked tin content. Lyman #2 (90/5/5) casts best for me, esp. the 22 and 24 caliber examples. 2%-added tin to my usual/default alloy (92/6/2) makes it cast better as well, close to the 90/6/4 someone else spoke of a day or two ago. I bump the heat up a bit, too--from 675* to 700*-725*. Heat and tin are your friends when dealing with Loverin-type bullets.

My favorite Loverine 8X57mm bullet is the 323471.
A longer , heaver bullet than the 470' bullet.
A fine shooter for me.

That base is my fault. The second bullet wouldn't drop on the first cast so i tapped it too hard with the wood dowel. They were dropping good after a few with nice bases.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
What Ben said. Try different pouring methods and go over the mould and make sure it's closing tight and square.
