Lyman 55 Powder Tube

Yes, JW, if you don't have a lathe handy, buying a few of his tubes is way cheaper than buying one.
If you do have a lathe, though, there are some pretty good options. IMO, glass will always be more
resistant to chemical attack from the powder than any polymer.

And, Gary, I brought it up, just forgot the rule on group buys. I suppose there must have been
problems with them on the other site that I was not aware of. Will let it lay.

Good price....but will still be slowly destroyed by certain powders, unlike the glass ones.

Ditto here...glad to be of help...sure is better than scrubbing the gunk out...
Now, getting the old tube out will be a challenge

Groups buys as run elsewhere would be frowned upon, they often cause too much drama.
Now if an adventurous soul bought a few and chose to resell them....

Yep, that is what I was thinking about. JW, Titegroup is pretty bad, too, if you use it.
Probably, if you use BE, you probably don't use TG, since they overlap pretty much.

Bullseye taught me to dump out powder after usage in my RCBS measures. I don't really want to mess with dismounting the flask sections. You gotta wonder, though--with all of the whoopee-high-tech plastics out there in the modern world, why izzit that RCBS/Lyman/Redding et al haven't found a see-through material that isn't etched and eaten by the materials their tools are meant to dispense? I suppose they figure it the same way outboard motor manufacturers do--flush with fresh water after saltwater usage.

Much of the issue is the nature of nitroglycerin itself. It is an odd molecule. It readily migrates from one substance to another. Nitroglycerin in the medical world requires some special attention as it migrates into the various plastic IV bags, plastic vials, etc and loses potency.

I don’t store powder in measures but mine do show discoloration from the short term effects.

That must be why heart patients carry it in little glass bottles. Off topic, but interesting.

It comes in those glass bottles and until needed should remain in them.

Update from Lyman...

Good morning,
John sent me your email about the powder measure reservoirs. Unfortunately we no longer make the old style reservoirs with the threads on them. Many customers find that they can warm up the base of the new one so the plastic is a little softer, and they can pop it into place, and it works just fine. You can use either a hair dryer or a hot water dip to do this. If this is not something you want to try, I can set up a return for the reservoir.

Best Regards,
Kate Scott

My few contacts with Lyman Customer Service have been positive. Good people, sometimes the products are a bit lacking.

Got my replacement today! That sure was fast for free shipping! Just for the record it is the "short tube" ( not 1 lb) but that is all I wanted!
Feeling a bit under the weather today so will try replacing it tomorrow

Don't hold your breath long...
They don't come threaded, Lyman suggests to warm it up (dryer or hot water) to pop it in...
