Mag 25 started leaking around the nozzle. Sent Lyman a picture they said can't fix but 175.00 they will send me a new one.

Wow ain't that sweet of them huh? How old is this furnace?

I think if it were me I would just tell them that for an additional $100 I can have both a better furnace AND customer service.

I hate them for this. I did just buy a new Lyman All American 8 turret press. I am very happy with it so far. Their customer services leaves something to be desired.
RCBS, Dillon.....Those guys have it figured out.....

It could likely be repaired. Bad on Lyman for dumping you.

If I found myself in your position... would drain, take it apart, see if I might be able to weld the bung back in...assuming that snapped loose.

Got it in February of 2016. I have six lee pots got this one for the PID. Don't know what I'm going to do yet. In 30 years their customer service has not been very good don't think it's going to change.

I could see it if it were old stock or something but it's only 3 yr old maybe .
How much labor could possibly be involved in hanging a new pot assy . It can't cost them over $10 for the whole bucket , needle , and seat fittings to send a set out ....... Oh wait , I forget offshore manufacturing ........ Nevermind .

I would tell them to shove it someplace and buy RCBS.

A casting pot should last a lifetime or damned close to it. A couple years? Hell no.

I have one of their Orange Crusher Presses, sitting in the box, in my garage. Don't know the reason is called orange, case it's hammered gray. Purchased it for loading rifle cartridges, dedicating my RCBS JR for pistol reloading. Wore out one set of linkages and half way through the second set................was too much slop in that press, from the get go.

RCBS JR is much older without a lick of trouble. I don't hesitate to resize once fired 308 military brass.

I also have the Mag 25, but I have the nozzle bottomed out. Using it as a ladle pot. I should take a look at the spout.

Don't have too many Lyman products..............several "M" dies and a scale that came in the reloading kit with the Orange Crusher. Even that is inferior to the scale that came with the RCBS JR kit. Have a few of their H & I sizer dies................only because the RCBS ones were out of stock.

Can't beat green when it comes to customer service and support.

I hate to see a guy spend his powder/primer money like that. A PID controller system could be built for cheap and would be able to be switched from pot to pot. Being "remote," the heat from the pot would not be an issue with the electronics. A simple on/off controller using a DC output could turn your pot on and off through a solid state relay. I'm using an archaic mercury relay because it's what I had. I just energize/de-energize a 110V receptacle into which I plug my LEE pot, which is set at max on the on-board control.

I'd still try to fix the Lyman pot, but the prices on those things are way out of line for what they're providing.

Unfortunately both the Lyman and RCBS are made in China as complete units and they don't carry parts. Looked up the diagram on the RCBS web site and no RCBS part numbers ared listed, only sequential numbers to id the parts. I have the Easy Melt and hope it lasts wsy longrr than 3 yrs!

I picked up an Easy Melt, last year, for @ $90 OTD. Then got another $25 back from RCBS's rebate. Can't beat that with a stick.

I have PID for my Lee pots just brought the Lyman because it was new. After couple of hundred thousand bullets nice for a change. I didn't expect much from the pot but I just thought the electric would go out way before the pot.

Is your pot, out of warranty? IIRC, there was a two year warranty. I make it a point buy all my electronics on my AMEX card. They give an extra year warranty, over and above the manufacturers.

I bought a Lyman Mag 20 in about 1984. It is still going great. I set it up for dipping, which was my preferred method at that time.

Fast forward to 2013 and I bought a new Lyman Mag 20, the “hammered” gray one. It was DOA.

So, bought a new RCBS Pro-Melt and it has been a great furnace.

I use a PID controller on the RCBS, and use the old Mag 20 as a replenishment pot for the RCBS.

One interesting thing - the RCBS didn’t want to work if it was plugged into a GFCI outlet. No problems with the Lyman on the same outlet.

Nowadays I pretty much avoid any new Lyman products. Hate to say that as one time they made some great stuff.

Lyman Customer Service flat out told me this a while back when I wanted to buy parts. They're bringing products in from China now, but are not getting repair or replacement parts. I assume that it is because they don't order them. Suddenly, everything is non-serviceable.

RCBS told me the same thing before the new pots were released.
