Lyman Mag 25 ?

The RCBS Pro Melt 2 seems to be having some teething issues. I should have purchased the old RCBS Pro Melt when they were available.

So, anyone have experience with the Lyman Mag 25? Good, Bad or Ugly ?

I've had mine now for about 2 years. I like it. I did get the NOE guide for it as the original was too narrow for LEE & MP molds. The Lee molds would set on top but not the MP. It seems to hold the right heat settings (it has a built in PID) and it doesn't leak. I'd buy it again.

I have had mine for 3 or 4 years now. Works great, and doesn't leak like the Leak-O-Matic that it replaced. No problem using various moulds with it, as I simply turn the guide to the left and rest the mould on the side rails.

Had mine 2-3 years as well. I've run a few hundred pounds of lead through it so far, including about 700 452-255RF today. I have a little trouble with the spout slowing some, just run a bent piece of electric fence wire up it and keep making bullets. Most of my molds are Lee, NOE and Accurate 5 and 6 cavity versions. I just lower the guide to appropriate level and angle it some so the mold rides on top of it.
Much prefered over the old 10 lb Lee I ran for so many years.

I have both Mag 25 is good but the RCBS Pro melt 2 is way easier to use just like the Pro melt.

No issues with my Mag 25............@ two years old. As far as the mould guide, turn it up side down, to accommodate all the different mould sizes.

Been hearing issues with the nozzle, failing on the Lyman, on CB. Not leakage but actually cracking. Before that, I dedicated my to ladle casting. Just locked the rod, all the way, down. Removed portion of the mould warming plate that extends into the pot opening, to accommodate the Rowell #2 ladle, that I use the majority of the time.

I have two and a buddy has one. Oldest is 3 years give or take. Only issue I have had is the cooling fan was acting up and turned out to be the plastic blade just needed to be snapped back into place on the motor shaft. No leaks, and getting ready to buy another one.
And yes, you will need the NOE mold guide.

Both Lyman and RCBS new have good and bad qualities. Lyman heats up faster but RCBS is easier to use. Tried first NOE mould guide on the Lyman A4B47ED6-279A-434F-9A54-F9787D93737F.jpegthat did not work so well. Hopefully their second try is better.
