Made a hexagon

I wanted to make a hexagon from round stock for the handle on the hammer I was making. The head was done and I wanted a distinct handle.

Looked online, found the measurements I needed and got to work.

Turned some 1” stock to .750 on one end to hold in a 5C collet in my hex collet block. The block worked like a charm!

This is the hex back in the lathe ready to have the .750 section cut off.

That looks so good I'd be afraid to hit anything with it for fear of marking it up!

Keith, I was a bit worried about that too. I used it last night. Worked like a charm for tapping stock into the vise.
I did cold blue the handle and Loctite it into the head.

Looks like it will be good for bumping things into alignment in your lathe chuck, too.

Pretty much yeah. Very polite, knowledgeable, sharing crowd here. Just as was originally envisioned at the beginning. :)

Slow feed rate, a bit of cutting oil, and a light final pass climb milling.
YouTube has taught me so much it is amazing.

I have some ideas for the next one.

and a light final pass climb milling.

very good grasshopper, it really does make a difference which direction you take the final cut.

Climb milling with a benchtop drill press = exploding stuff. I never would have thought it would make a better light pass finish. Climb milling doesn't work at all with wood. Learn something new every day around here!

Tried something different today.
Started out making some 2.6° angle blocks to make a tapered hexagon.
Worked great!
