"Russian parts, American parts, no matter------ALL MADE IN TAIWAN!!!!"

Just buy two Chinese switches so you have a spare and get to casting.

Went to an electric supply place in town today & they had the switch. Genuine 100% Chinese. Left it there and went to another electric place and they had switches from a place in Sycamore, Ill. Made in China. I bought the Chinese one. Whadda gonna do? I tried.

Be careful throwing that switch, it can get your attention.

In the automotive world that would be an SAE J1963-002A universal circuit device....known to laymen as a jumbo paper clip bent into a U shape. Rated for up to 15 amps @12 VDC.

Anyone here with film industry or gaffer background know what a C-47 is?

No paper clips, did it right with the correct connectors & the bad switch removed. Pulling the plug makes an excellent off switch. Don't need an electrical fire, very tough to explain that to the insurance company. :(

I may just move to Oregon where I can now buy Magma pot legally......

Rick, safe can be so boring. Listen to Ian, learn how a real redneck does things.

Boring? Perhaps but not nearly as boring as no house & those insurance people have no sense of humor at all. :(

Insurance people are certainly humorless.
Am I the only one who always checks the pot at least twice after casting to make sure it is off?

I always unplug both the pot and the hot plate when finished. What I always forget is to turn off that digital thermometer I got from NOE and the digital earmuffs. :(

The hotplate is unplugged during casting as it is no longer needed at that point. Everything else is plugged into a power strip which is turned off.

No, you're certainly not. Sometimes three times, and I won't even go to bed until it's cool enough to touch. Been known to get up in the middle of the night to check again. And "off" means unplugged, same with the hot plate. Been extra paranoid ever since Lloyd Smale lost all his stuff in that fire.

I work in the back of my garage, below grade, so have a hood, light, fan, and pot plugged into an outlet strip. I unplug the pot when finished casting, turn the light off, and will leave the fan run for a few hours prior to unplugging it. While I have a hotplate, I simply don't use it. The mould is place on top of the pot and has a chance to heat up as the pot heats up.
