Making a road trip

This morning to meet this little girl.

Yoda.jpg

She is a 12 week old lab, one of four left in the litter. At only 12 weeks it shouldn't be too difficult to change her name (if I get her). Not much of a Star Wars fan and a dog named Yoda just isn't a good fit for me. She needs a new name.

I like single syllable names for my dogs. Trouble with that is "used" Dogs have a name already!! :p

She is a cutie. Good luck!!

We had a black lab when I was growing up, my Mom named her, Lady Shenandoah III.
Lady was a great pet for Pre-teen Jon. She was well trained by my Mom, and one of the smartest dogs we ever had. We lived by a Lake at that time, and she had a Penchant to find dead fish and roll in them...GOOD TIMES !

I go for names I can walk around the yard and holler without someone calling the Sheriff about "some lunatic" wandering around screaming weird things.

As @CWLONGSHOT says, single-syllable, especially one you can belt out without a lot of effort, because when you have to holler and holler, it can wear you out.

I knew a dog named "booger" once. I knew a little kid named "booger" once too, for that matter, both in the same backerds parts I care not to go back to. "Booger" might seem "cute" until you have to run around the neighborhood hollering "BOOOOOOGEEEEEER" for an hour. It may not get the dog's attention, but it sure will get attention - just not the kind you want.

We have a new cat. Wife gave him a name he doesn't respond to. He responds to EVERYTHING I call him, but I probably wouldn't want to wander the neighborhood hollerin' what I've been calling him. I'd get locked up, at least for a night. He's a good cat, but still a CAT.

Rick, she's real cute and it's time.

We've been looking for a second dog. Would like a Belgian Tervuren, but another Malamute would also be good. Smokey, our second wolfdog, was a shelter dog who was so scary the shelter was going to put him down the morning after his obligatory 1 week hold was up.

Yup, be careful what you name them. Had a cat I named Walt, came when called. But wife's nickname (given by her gal friends) from college was the same. She (wife) doesn't come when called. But still a keeper.

 That as a matter of fact is just what I named her . . . Cutie

Didn't get the one in the picture, she was adopted already but I got her twin sister. The one in the picture is named Yoda, this one "was" named Sushi. No raw fish for me. This is gonna be tough for awhile. She is now 4 months old, has never once been away from the kennel, been on a leash, away from the other dogs, been in a vehicle or in a house. She is firmly convinced that a leash means sit and stay. She is right now one scared little girl and is hiding behind the washing machine in the laundry room. She also had eyelid surgery recently and I need to put drops in her eyes twice a day and two different pills twice a day. Stopped at the vet on the way home and picked all that up, was already paid for by the kennel. Goes back to the vet a week from Friday to get the stiches out. She is fully up to date on all her shots and has already been fixed. The rescue kennel I got her from definitely takes care of those pooches. Didn't see a single skinny dog there. No idea where their funding comes from but I gave them an extra $100 over the adoption cost. Just the dog food bill there has to be horrendous not to mention the vet bills.

That name is going to be a problem when you go searching for her at night. Likely to get some attention from a jealous husband. I am pretty sure you know the more you physically handle and groom that cutie, the more she will settle down. Good luck and enjoy your new best buddy.

Name her dammit.

Where are you dammit. Why did you do that dammit.

Mighty fine suggestion Brad but I'm thinking I'll stick with Cutie.

Got a stack of papers from the vet the kennel uses on all her vaccinations. Dang dog has even had a covid vaccination and boosters and a long list of other things I can't even pronounce.

Had a Unique , Purdey , and Remmy ......ie the feminine . Nique' was the only one changed with life .
A boss had a a Chessi he called S.I.D , well it was Sid when he said it . The dog loved the water and sand was obedient never a nose lock did a few party tricks and just dumber than a box of rocks . I once saw him actually trapped in a corner because 2 chairs blocked his escape from behind the pool table because they touched both shoulders .......the pool table had 18" of clear space under it 5' wide . He was 3 . When called he would whip around with his whole body to locate the call it's a wonder he could walk . I know he was brain damaged .

Handsome girl there . QT looks like a good fit for a half pint :) .

Can't let the old lady see this. She has been on me for awhile to get a dog. I just cant. After I lost mine I just can't do it again. They say you only get one very special dog to you. I feel I had mine. He was ME but with 4 legs. I am the one that has to see them all out on their journey. I have 2 cats left and last week the newest one we found out has a terminal disease and will not make it much past the end of the year. Sooner if he gets sick in any way.

Isn't it funny how other people decide for us that we "need" what they want?

Labs are fine dogs. Good luck to both of you. Love and kindness will overcome just about anything in anybody's' or anything's life.
