I like single syllable names for my dogs....
CW
I go for names I can walk around the yard and holler without someone calling the Sheriff about "some lunatic" wandering around screaming weird things.
As
@CWLONGSHOT says, single-syllable, especially one you can belt out without a lot of effort, because when you have to holler and holler, it can wear you out.
I knew a dog named "booger" once. I knew a little kid named "booger" once too, for that matter, both in the same backerds parts I care not to go back to. "Booger" might seem "cute" until you have to run around the neighborhood hollering "BOOOOOOGEEEEEER" for an hour. It may not get the dog's attention, but it sure will get attention - just not the kind you want.
We have a new cat. Wife gave him a name he doesn't respond to. He responds to EVERYTHING I call him, but I probably wouldn't want to wander the neighborhood hollerin' what I've been calling him. I'd get locked up, at least for a night. He's a good cat, but still a CAT.
