Nice. You have a few rounds thru the gun I bet.
How big is the steel at 100 yards?

Those can be really accurate pistols, and it is fun to do long range shooting. Good shooting,
esp for one of us seniors. Great to have a gun that long and learn to use it well.

When I was 17 or 18, I used to shoot my first pistol, 6" Ruger standard auto at Coke cans
at 100 yds. Eventually, I could knock over 5 with 7 or 8 shots, sitting, back of my hand
rested against my Mom's clothesline pole. Not exactly a benchrest position, but I was
17 and figuring it out on my own.

I have had my Ruger for 48 years now, and it has worn a Bushnell Phantom scope for
the last 30+ years. I wish I had the same eyes as that 17 year old!

I have a very similar pistol (same barrel contour and length), but a Mark II with the 22/45 grip set. It is scary-accurate, and goes along to complement my small centerfire varminters (25/20 and 32/20) in desert and hayfield venues. It has accounted for numerous ground squirrels and jackrabbits, though the 22 LR is enhanced by use of hollow-point or the CCI SGB (small game bullet) in any handgun. Maybe someday the HP and SGB will re-emerge on store shelves.

Shooting handgun indoor silhouette years back, I won a brick of RWS match .22 LR ammo with
my Ruger. It LOVES that stuff, and it has been doled out parsimoniously over the decades, but I
have shot a number of 5/8" diam 5 shot groups at 25 yds from sitting or bench positions with
my Std 6" with the 1.3X Phantom and that RWS match ammo.

I sure wish I could match that with other guns, my very best with centerfires will usually run about
3/4-1" for 5". Sometimes I bring one of my Ruger std autos (not sure exactly how many have
somehow accumulated in the safe over the last 40+ yrs) with me as a "proof of skill" tool. Some
days ammo testing or gun testing is going SO badly that I start to wonder if somehow I just have
forgotten how to shoot! Whip out the Ruger and std ammo and prove that, no - it isn't me, the
ammo or gun really IS that bad! Neat to have them as a reference standard. They are really
that good.

Again - well shot, not easy and as our eyes fade with age it becomes monstrously harder.
"Sight alignment by braille" yes, sadly it does seem like that at times.

Does anyone else use a Lyman Hawkeye or other pinhole device for iron sight shooting? Helps
me a lot - or at least did before I had my new eyes installed. Haven't had time to check it out,
been on the road all over the western and SE USA for last two months with about 3 days at home.
Great to visit friends and family, but nice to be back home, too.

Great to see an old Mark I in action. I had the standard, fixed sight one and it was dead on at 25 and the bullet crossed the line of sight at 80 yards. I shot tiny birds from power lines at 80 yards every shot. I rested on the rag top of my convertible. I still feel bad about the birds and could have been fined for it.
I still own 2 Mark II's and my brother in law has my Mark I.
I won Ohio state IHMSA with my Mark II, new out of box with no sight settings. 57 out of 60. All 5 shoot off chickens at 100 yards.
To be without a Ruger is a sin.

That was very cool....Thank You for posting. I always enjoy your videos!

I got a project gun off of Gun Broker a few years ago same bull barrel style but it is a MarkII.
Took me some work but got it all cleaned up and rust blued. Now looking at the before and after photos I think it came out pretty good. Had to remove some metal on the muzzle because that was bad My friend turned the end of the barrel and did a recess & crown. Shoots very well at 25 yards ......never considered a hundred yds! I think I'm going to give this a try!

Shot mine to 200 yards and found the bullets dropped 53" By putting a target to aim at 53" higher then a can, I could hit a can.
Your problem today with any .22 is the sad ammo being sold. I won Ohio state with WW Wildcat ammo. RWS was best but was weaker for knockdown of steel.
Bulk .22's are the worst now. CCI still makes good stuff but old WW was better. WW and Rem has gone to the dark side.
