We took some video of the boys opening their presents as we are thinking that this may be the last year that we would be able to give them a really big surprise. We've had some very lean Christmas' in the past because I was forced into an early retirement and at the same time had a quite large portion of my monies tied up in long term investments.
This year we gave each a pretty nice laptop computer and a couple of other goodies.

In addition to them asking for laptops for a couple of years, we're hoping it will give them a slight advantage in slogging through their homework.

I've not been online for about a week. I got to go on a pheasant hunt and got back on Xmas eve morning at 2 AM. Had a great time and got my birds. Even got a picture of my old labs (15 years old) probable last retrieve. Weather was great and wind wasn't too bad. New snow a couple days for tracking.
Had all our kids, their spouses,BIL, 2 nieces, my parents, and grandkids in our home (27 total). The ladies got all carried away with the food, and I'll be eating leftovers for a month. Just the wife and I here today as everybody went to their inlaws or friends today, and a big movie day planned here again tomorrow. Trying to talk the wife into going on a pheasant hunt the last five days of the season. Wish me luck!! Couple pictures from the pheasant hunt.

Well I got to hunt the last four days of the SD season. The weather was great and the dogs were also. My little chocolate pup (11 months old) got his first bird. A rooster that was doing the death flutter and he bailed right on him. He ended up pulling the tailfeathers out of the bird in the process and brought him to me by one wing. I let him play with it a couple minutes and he sure enjoyed it. The older dogs seemed to enjoy watching him as much as I did. Had a coldfront and fog move in about 3 pm the last day. I was short one bird but decided to get headed home to beat the fog. Ran about the first fifty miles in some pee soup, but got ahead of it. Great trip and got to hunt my old lab a little more. He didn't get to retrieve any more birds, the young dogs are just too fast for him to keep up, but he sure enjoys being on the ground in pheasant country. Good end to a great season for me. The birds were just gorgeous and i brought home one for a taxidermist buddy of mine to mount.Good way to ring in a new year for sure.
