Model 25 Classic

I bet if you could put a drive mandrel in the center of some sort in a hot melt glue cast of the forcing cone you might be able to imbed abrasive compound in it and use it directly with no measuring needed.

That could work too Keith.
I need to look at the lap I made for my wife’s 686. If that lap is large enough in diameter I may give it a go, it did An excellent job on the 686.

Nice "Tale Of The Tape" on that Model 25 Classic. That bodes well for my 625 PC x 4" that gets paroled on 11/5.

I meant to assemble some ammo for the 625 prior to its arrival, but got a touch of the flu on Monday and went to bed to fight it. Felt better and drove to San Diego to spend Halloween weekend with family, but the GACK hit me again Friday morning so we dialed back the daytime plans for shooting in Dulzura and left for home last night. Taking it slow for a couple days, hopefully the flu shot will keep this nonsense at low volume and short duration. All of the smoke in the air from all of the fires nearby is NOT HELPING at all.

I had that stuff about a month ago.
I was fighting it with some zinc and vitamin C.
figured it was about gone after 3-4 days, then it just hung out in my lungs for another 4-5 days.

First 100 rounds. I need a taller front sight to get it to POA at 10 yards. I did get it left finally.
I need a new sizer, the .452 is a bit small and the bore did lead pretty well. Between sizing diameter and the rough throat I wasn’t too surprised. At least those are easy fixes.
My Lyman 452454 casts an out of round .451x.453 bullet that even after powder coating won’t size to .452 all the way around. I borrowed a 454454 from Paul today, made by NOE. I know it will cast large enough to size .453.

yeah that's shooting horrible.
look at that flyer.... LOL

I think if you get that throat smoothed out you'll have a shooter there.

The rear sight is bottomed out.
The stocks are a little slimmer than those on the 624 and it bothers me. These are slim enough that recoil really moves the gun in my hand. More checkering would help as well.

I was pretty pleased. Nothing would have been worse than taking a new gun out the first time and it shoots horribly.

I'm kinda surprised you shot it before fixing that horrid excuse for a forcing cone.

Rick, I thought about that too.
I decided that the dangers of having an unfired gun in the house far outweighed the risks of shooting it with the “forcing cone” as provided by the factory.

I am certain that other members have made a similar decision in the recent past.

I plead "Guilty as charged". The incredible danger involved in keeping guns unfired outweighs most other considerations within my gun safe. The subsequent 'downstream' effects of such a course of conduct are too horrid to contemplate.

The 45 Colt is a wonderful cartridge. In the late 70s and early 80s, Anaheim PD authorized the Model 25-5 in 4" and 6" barrel lengths for uniform/duty carry, this while much of California was relegated to carrying "The Crowd Pleaser"--38 Special. It sure made me question the choice I made in October 1977 between Anaheim PD and Riverside SD. I really liked getting out of the urban sprawl of the Inland Empire, but I also wanted to carry a serious sidearm while practicing the social proctology that copwork sometimes entails.

I have had a 45 Colt of some kind for close to 40 years. One Uberti, a number of Rugers, but no double-actions. Tell ya what, though--if S&W made that M-25 Classic with a 4" barrel, I likely would have chosen one of those over the PC 625 in 45 ACP that gets paroled on 11/5. Reading about Brad's experience with his 6" 45 Colt gives me much food for thought.

I too have an affinity with the 45 Colt. My Marlin 1894 CB will never be sold. My 4 5/8” Blackhawk taught me much about sizing and what causes leading.
This handgun has a pretty good trigger pull for a factory fresh gun. Get a few hundred rounds thru it and that will smooth out more.
Need to get out to the garage and make a .453 push thru sizer. Not sure when that will happen, I am scheduled for hernia surgery Tuesday.

Al, consider one of these even with the 6 1/2” barrel. It is a lightweight barrel and doesn’t have a muzzle heavy feel at all. Not best for a carry gun but I am a range shooter most of all.

That's why I have the bastardized 1917 .
It's only in S&W but at a level of probably 18,000 psi it is both a +P a and easily matches the basic Colts and everything offered by the 45 ACP well within the guns working window .

Most of my 45 Colts have doted upon the Lee 200 grain "H&G #68 impostor" @ 900 FPS like the 45 ACPs have. The revolvers place them lower on target, as well. 7.5 grains of WW-231 in Colt cases does the trick nicely. Many jackrabbits have fallen to this load's gentle bark.

That is a load I will try. Lots of those bullets on hand and a good supply of HP38 too.
Taper crimp on band or roll crimp over front band?

I've got a Ruger Redhawk 7.5" in 45 Colt that I really enjoy shooting; its a tank but solid for shooting. I tried a S&W 25 back many years and found it inaccurate with my loads; if I knew then what I know now, I'm sure I could have solved that problem.
