I used to own 2 of those and found they were quite happy with several CB designs. To wit, sized to .309", these CB's worked very well: Lyman #311291; Ly. #311466; Lee C309-180R; and Saeco #315. Btw, I had a bump die made in order to seat both-291 and -C309 "long", which increased accuracy markedly.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
In my limited experience with 1 K31, it's not so much tight throats as it is dimensions erring to the nominal side of things across the baord. So not just the throat, but the bore too. These are the one rifle that no one ever seems to have a problem finding a "fat enough nose" for. I have a SAECO RG4 with a .299/.300 nose that fits mine right on the money. My other nominal 30 cals want noses running a thou or 3 larger in a bore rider. K31's shine in that respect. Plus, to put it in 1970's terms, they are REALLY COOL rifles.

I have been shooting the RCBS 165 silhouette bullet in mine since about forever.
NOE has a modified version of this bullet with a convex shape to the front of the front drive band.
I think it's called the 30cal. hunter.

The .30 Hunter I think was designed as a K31 in mind. I don't know how big the nose actually turns out though since they tend to run fat on most NOE moulds. The MP 30 SIL is another one that would work.

I don't have much experience with the cast bullets in my K31 and have not shot it in over 2 years but do plan to soon. I have used the Lee C309-160-R, C309-200R and CTL312-160-2R with 5744, 2400 and IMR4198. I think that the nose of the CTL312-160-2R is too large as I had chambering issues with that bullet. All bullets were tumble lubed.
I have recently cast some Lyman 311299's (191 grains as cast) and I think they may work. Lubri-sizer or TL(maybe both) is my plan, Powder Coat would probably make the nose too large. Trail Boss powder is becoming my favorite cast bullet powder so I plan to try it also.
I have the Redding dies and using PPU brass.
That is a very nice looking K31 and it has the target iron sights!

This was a old "group buy" on another site. NOE says it was designed for the K-31. I've ordered one in the PB version.

I use bullets from that mould with complete success.

As has been said it was designed for the K-31

I think NOE called that the "30 Hunter" for a while and I understand Al re-did some of the mould names recently in the catalog. Dunno, haven't checked. Anyway, the 311-195-rf should be the K-31 mould.

30 hunter is a bad name as MP did one also and it is quite different.

This is the 30 MP Hunter.

not really all that different.
the NOE used to have that flatter nose, then it got a bit of a re-work after a 'slight' disagreement with the designer of both bullets.
the MP got a crimp groove added to make de-chambering better.

Not a NOE Mould but.
The RCBS 165 Sil with the gas check sized .311 shoots very well in both my and my son-in-laws K31's. The sizing die does not touch the bands just the gas check. In our rifles the bullet must be seated with the top band just barely out of the case mouth with the band hitting the rifling lightly.
Alliant 2400 at 15.7 grains for my rifle and 16.2 grains for his. WLR standard primers.
With good wind conditions the load will shoot into the 390's in the CBA Cast Bullet Military matches.
