Loaded some new Starline brass with 18 gr H110 and a CCI300 primer. Bullet is the MP 44/444 305 HP. These are cast from 5 # monotype/ 50 # range scrap. I heat treated these to 425 for an hour then quenched.
Going tomorrow to see how they do in th Super Redhawk. I just put a Weaver 2.5-8 x scope on it so I should be good to go once I get it sighted in.
Rick thinks we must have large marauding soda cans in NE to need this much bullet.

Yeah, here in Arkansas they are dangerous, all fangs, claws and hard charging. Many need to be shot multiple times to put an end to their evil ways. Safest to get them while they are at least 100 yards out, can't let them things get too close.

Here is my 300 gr HPGC, HPPB, FPGC, FPPB 44. Two RCBS molds altered by Erik Ohlen, one to cast Cramer style HP with the gas check shank removed from one cavity. The other mold had the gas check shank removed and the other cavity casts FPGC. Two molds, four cavities and four different hunting bullets. It is deadly on them dangerous soda cans but has also put bacon, hams and pork loin on the table.

Here is a photo showing how well that long seating works to get the bullet well into the throat and well supported.

This shows how much the bullet fills the cylinder. The bullet is in the cylinder throat from the second band forward. Lots of nose support going on here.

Brad,

I sent my Lyman 429640 HP to Erik for removal of the g/c shank.
Erik, at an earlier date , Hp'd this mold and provided 3 HP pins.
He does fantastic work. The mold arrived and I made a few " test cast ".

I couldn't be any happier with Erik's work ! !

Thanks,
Ben

Here the bullet is sized .431" and lubed with Ben's Red
Look close at the photo below and you can see the .431" bearing
surface on the bullet in front of the crimp ring.

Should work well on anything with 2 legs or 4 legs.
I have 3 different HP pins.
A flat nose pin, a shallow HP pin and a deep hp pin.
A very versatile mold.

I should get one of those moulds. I know MP has some in stock still. I hate to spend money on moulds. I am the opposite of most, I have very few moulds.

Get the right ones and you won't need many.

Went out and sighted in with the new scope. Talk about a dumbass moment.

Set up the spotting scope so my daughter could spot for me. Shot at the 100 yard gong. I wasn't even close! I kept cranking on the scope but didn't seem to be getting closer. This gong is about 18 inches across so it should be easy to hit, right? After 18 shots or so I asked if she was looking at the gong with the hole in it. No, I was told I had set the scope on the smaller gong 3 feet to the left! Well hell, no wonder I couldn't hit anything.
Once I got on paper I realized that having more magnification is a double edged sword. It shows bobbles on target so much that I forgot what Rick beat into my head- GRIP.

Brad,

Ha, I thought that I was the only one that did things like that..............

Bobbles? Shooting from the bench? Really? Something is amiss, it should be rock steady with a good set up and front rest.

I think we all have those moments. At least she didn't laugh at me.

Yes, bobbles. The cross hairs stayed in the black but moved over an area about 6 inches across.

I will see if I can get a photo posted to show the setup.

Frustrated from the start....bobbles...lol, you should have let your daughter sight it in.o_O

Been there done that. At least I'm not the only one.

So what did you get for a best group or is a re test in order?

I didn't even go and get the target. I got on paper and that was good enough for now. I can shoot 6 inch groups with this but I want much better. It is the one in 6 that goes 8 inches out that drives me nuts.

I'm turning you in....lol....your supposed to remove your targets out there. :p

Kidding aside sometimes even bore sighted guns don't cooperate on paper. Had a 20ga slug gun I was so frustrated with I dialed the scope in at 10yds. then backed up. Simply couldn't catch paper at 50 from the start.

I would have liked to find a few of the bullets but it was a busy day at ENGC. I haven't seen that many people on a weekday in years.
