The Crackerbox is under contract. Now if all goes well and it doesn't fall out of escrow (if there was an emoji depicting prayer it would go here), we've got to figure out the logistics of moving household and machine shop by the middle of next month.

Good news indeed. Let me be the first to welcome you to the free world and congratulate you on your escape. :)

Good news and good luck, smokeywolf. Hope it all goes smoothly.

Rick, he hasn't made his way clear yet, but at least there is a clear plan at this point. A good thing.

Just rent the truck - don't get the adventure package.

Old family joke. Our first move, rented a UHaul box truck, all our worldly goods, including a VW bug inside it, and my wife
driving her car along side. Had CB radios, as this was in the late 70s. Started having electrical problems, the truck wouldn't
start at first stop, no battery water, but fortunately, we had the extra car and jumpers. It charged OK after that, but it started raining
and when the lights came on they were flashing on and off. Several stops at rest areas, looking under the dash, crawling the length
of the chassis looking for a problem. Finally hear a "turn signal sound" under the dash start pawing thru wired. Eventually locate
a small silver box, plink, plink, plink, in perfect time with the lights going on for a while, then off for a while, then on, then off, maybe
20- sec off, 5 sec on. Finally decided that it was circuit breaker, never saw one like it in a vehicle. So, I have a short.
Stopped raining, didn't need the lights, drove for a few hours. At every stop, looking for a short under dash, in engine comp,
on chassis, getting dirty crawling under the truck.
Finally, about at dark, I see WAY up top, a clearance light on the extreme top rear of the box is smashed flat. I found a loading
dock and pulled up and sure enough, the power lead pushed to ground. Pulled the wire out and left it dangling, where it couldn't'
touch anything. That fixed the electrical issues. Then it started running hot the next AM.

On the side of the box truck was a huge sign "Adventure in Moving".

Just rent the truck, don't get the "Adventure in Moving" package.:D

When I escaped I rented a U-Haul box truck and car trailer, put the Ford on the trailer and drove it hard. No issues with the truck but the straps that came with and as part of the trailer had one that wouldn't stay tight. A stop at a truck stop to buy a new ratchet strap solved that. Only real complaint with the truck is U-Haul's governor. Oh well, no speeding tickets.

Congratulations !

Cross country moves , and the stories ! No ,not today maybe later when you need the it could be in a state park no overnight parking lot one breaker bar short of a belt tensioner ........

If you need a haul truck , buy a recent retired Uhaul , Ryder etc truck load it , drive it , store in it , sell it when you're done with it . A big 4 bedroom truck was 2600 for 6 days 1600 miles you can buy them for 8-10K , 5-6 yr out of service half that because of the rented mule stigma . When you're done with it and sell your out the month of insurance and fuel and you got to use it to move and store your stuff while you get the shop and house settled , some times you lose a little on the sale but your still money ahead on renting one .

I know it's not a road trip with a U-Haul, but..................
About sun-up this morning had a cow and 2 year old visit our garden scrap pile. We had just harvested all of the potatoes and most of the carrots and take the leavings out to the yard edge and no further as I'm lazy.

Minutes afterwards this the moose came up to the tower/woodshed and Biscuit and I went out on the porch for a better view. Biscuit started out to the woodshed when Mom rounded the off side and got a look at my Border Collie and though it better the Biscuit should be on the porch with me. A quick little run put Biscuit sitting on my foot, leaning against my leg. Mom just wanted to make sure that her 2 year old was OK and moved down between the porch and woodshed. Big critters up close.

I suspect that Biscuit was thinking, "WHOA! Did you see the SIZE of that thing, boss!!? You're not going to let it get me, right boss?"

Visitors just now while getting the last carrots, cabbage, and cauliflower. Going to be a hard freeze tonight.

Biscuit warned us, made sure we knew the that we had visitors, and then she stayed silently we us. Really great very smart pup, continues to impress me with how she minds voice and hand commands, besides her natural commonsense.
Biscuit is sitting next to me in the center picture, while I'm taking the third picture.

A few months back my wife decided “we” needed a Ring doorbell. Kind of nice actually as we know when packages have been dropped off, etc.
we have gotten some nice video of moths at night, a few wasp, but today takes the cake.

The big bucks are dueling it out in our back yard and a flock of turkeys 3 times a day raid the property!
According to our Game commission we are not not allowed to feed them....I have 50 lbs of corn from last year so they are getting feed!
Can't get photos yet waiting for the time change! They are here before sun up! Not enough light for good pics

Cattle dogs are pretty good for a herd but smart enough to know when to quit. Had a rental truck full of stuff for the LA Olympic, dropped the drive shaft about 50mi. from start. I did not volunteer to go help move stuff from one truck to the other. Sister-in-law just got marries and was moving from KC to Dallas in a yellow rental - not a good idea going through Oklahoma at that time.

Good grief, Brad, just open the front door and let Hans bag a couple of those gobblers for you.

Old thread, but last night we had visitors again.

Our early warning system watching our visitor. Biscuit came over to where I was sitting in the living room and bumped me with her nose and issued a low growl. Walked off and looked back at me obviously requesting my presence at the door. As it was midnight and the sun set at 3:30 in the afternoon, it was quite dark . Flipped on the outside light and there was our visitor. If the door was not there I could have touched her.

Big one she is......... Licking the salt off the step. She stayed about 20 minutes to get the step nice and clean. This moose was bedded down just outside the other night, nice having good lighting outside. Chose to go up to the shop another time..

Moose is tasty meat, use to get elk when we lived in Colorado, as memory serves it was good stuff. The deer we get off the Islands in Prince William Sound are grass and sea weed feed, better than any venison I've had before. I quit hunting moose 30 + years ago, to much work, way to much meat for my family. In the summer we would fill the freezer halibut, rock fish, and salmon, then try to add a island deer in the fall when I did drop off hunts in the Sound. Damn moose would fill the freezer, not leaving room for variety.
