Mosin Loads

I know it has been asked a thousand times but sometimes my google foo doesn't seem to work.
Have been trying to find a decent load for a M44 using the 314299 bullet and IMR or H 4895.
Had a decent load but lost my computer hard drive so I have to star over again.
Any loads you have would be appreciated,

28.5 grs with 1.5grs of Dacron.
if a 30 cal rifle won't shoot that it probably won't shoot anything.
if you don't want the Dacron just up the powder another grain.

I become more fond of "The Load" in .30" to 8mm milsurps as time goes on--16.0 grains of 2400. 30-06, 303 British, 7.62 x 54R,and 8 x 57 all do decent work with it. Specific to my 'Romo' M-44, Lee #312-185 @ .311" atop 16.0 x 2400 is an all-day delight. The kids love it, and the oldest grandson will try it out this coming summer.

Thank you all.
The data you give me pretty much coincides with what
I remember in my old brain.
Am loading up 20 to try tomorrow.
Thanks again

Tomme, that load has worked well for me, 16 gr 2400 or 4227, and 17 gr wc-820 or h-108, then old faithful 18 gr of 4759

that 19grs of 2400 is one of my 0-6 loads. [the 03A3 loves it]
in the 308 I drop it to 18 [17 works well too in many others] but it 'isn't quite' [talking 1/4' here] as good as the 4895 load.

Tried 28, 28 1/2 grain loads today.
28 1/2 grain with 316299 bullet worked best at 1850fps
out of my old worn out barrel M44.
Did not use the dacron filler .
Thanks for the data fiver

just watch for vertical stringing. [caused by ignition and velocity inconsistencies]
the filler [I use dryer lint] is a powder positioner as much as anything else.

some powders really need it [H-322] and others do better with it [4895/4831] when the loads are cut down.

Just cast from my noe 314299... Pb & gc. Both coming out at .315+ with my alloy. Plan to use it for mosin & enfields. Have a '46 m44 that I'm going to try pb gallery practice loads for fun. Looks like most of you are sizing .311 to .314. I might keep it as cast and LLA/ms to get a baseline at 50yds. Then explore with 2400 powder.

straight from the mold plain base LLA coated doesn't get any easier, and you can get by with @8 grains of just about anything Unique speed or faster with good results.

Excellent! Have had GREAT success with bullseye & 30-06 (both Lee 155gr & RCBS 180gr FN).

OK,Mosin update
Finally had a chance to get to the range today.
Been a long dry spell for me.
Tried the 311466 sized 312 over 39 grains of IMR 4895 using Bens Red Lube.
The M44 bubba shot the best it has ever shot , it started life with me as a parts gun.
Need to tweak the load a little but held 4 inches at 100 meters.
The old 44 is a scout rifle with a 4 power simmons pistol scope.
No pictures as was shooting at steel.
After I get it narrowed down will shoot paper and post a picture.

Nice to hear, you got to the range, and had success! The smell of burned powder, and the beautiful music of bullets clashing into steel plates.... sounds like you had a good time.

Finn model 27 Lyman 314299 sized to .3135 to fit a .3115 bore. Hansen Cartridge company brass, 20.0 grains IMR 4759, Winchester LR primer. Bullet cast from wheel weights with 2% tin. Good for 2" groups at 100 yds. Best I can do with iron sights. Have a Finn Model 39 my brother gave to me. Shot with corrosively primed ammo and never cleaned. Found a mint condition M39 barrel on Gunboards and and a smith that did Moisins. Have to slug that barrel to find out what I'm dealing with. Right now my reloading room/ den is crammed with tools in preparation for replacing an old sheds doors. Between yard work and stuff to do it stinks but it's outside and fresh air. Want to get this stuff done before temps start getting over 90 plus degrees here in Louisiana. Frank
