Mount back ordered?

Need to final fit tab that goes in top strap, mill it to final depth, cut the tab that prevents mount from moving forward in recoil, and drill and counterbore for screws. Top strap is drilled and tapped for 3 screws, I may only use 2 of them. I prefer to avoid counterboring into a groove if possible.

Am I the only person that uses J-B Weld on the bottom of my scope mounts to get a customized fit of mount to receiver?

Do you use a release agent on top of receiver or just glue mount to receiver?

I can see where using a bedding compound for a perfect fit has merit.

In this case I am fitting the mount to a slot in the top of the revolver that held the rear sight.

I scarify the bottom of the mount and use Turtle Wax paste wax on top of the receiver and the threads on the screws as a release agent.
Anything that oozes out from around the base can be cleaned up with a Q-tip and fingernail polish remover. Once the JB Weld sets up, a slight tap from a rawhide or wooden mallet will break the base loose.
File the JB WELD from the base, if you need to make it fit another receiver and start over again.
This method will eliminate any rocking or movement created by the mount not being perfectly milled to match the receiver.
Use both screws, but just snug up one screw and make sure that the screw you tighten leaves a little gap between the other end of the receiver and the base.
This may not make much difference on light recoiling rifles, but can take some of the movement out of heavy recoiling rifles and handguns.
I've had very good luck with this method and have used it to shrink groups on some of my scoped rifles and handguns by eliminating one source of movement.

Cold blue most likely. Powder coat might be an option? Wonder how steel tumble coats?

Hawk,
no you are not! I have a very interesting custom top receiver mount for my Savage 340!
a bit of JB allows it to conform 100% to the front of the receiver
Never cared much for the side mount scope on it

I have the sprayer, Brad. Have a highly portable pancake compressor that will run it to. Have white, yellow, red, flat black, diy pink, & gray .

Your welcome to use it.

For most rifle bases Iap them in place with Emery paper and bed them with a film of high-strength threadlocker or bearing mount adhesive. Anything with a significant gap gets steel-filled epoxy like Devcon or Marine-Tex and the gun surface always coated with a wax film to prevent adhesion.

Got it done. Made a few small errors but nothing that will interfere with use.
It does feel like the muzzle is pointing downward so some shims may be needed.

Dang, I worked today too but quit at 1 pm and headed home to play. Nice mount, love the concept of the small reflex sight on handguns, will have to start moving that direction myself in a few years.

Instead of shims could you taper the bottom? Maybe should try out before pc?
