MP Molds 45 Cal Ruger Only

Does anyone have this mold? I ordered one on Sunday, 08/24 and almost unbelievably it arrived today for a total of 4 days. I'll heat cycle it a half dozen times or so mainly because I won't be able to cast with it for a week or so. It's the brass 4 gang GCHP and I'll start with the large pins.

If you have one, how does the bullets shoot? I have good luck with relatively heavy bullets in my revolvers and molds from MP and Accurate make good bullets.

That's the one I'm referring to. I suspect the "Ruger Only" part is because of nose length. I have the Accurate Molds 45-300E (or is it 46-300E GC) and it also has a longer nose that precludes it's use in my FA83 454 cylinder. It works just fine in the 45 Colt cylinder however. I know already that the MP Ruger Only bullets will be too long for the 454 cylinder as it has an even longer nose than the Accurate Mold. Well, 45 Colt it is then...

that looks like an okay bullet.
I'd prefer the nose to be a smidge shorter, but that's just me and my preference and why they make more than 1 mold per caliber.

Indeed it is a big reason there are so many molds. Imagine only having one mold or bullet. Why, this Forum wouldn't exist then.

Winelover, I've used the 270SAA and glad others enjoy SWC style bullets, but I'm more of a LFN kind of guy. I just have an extremely easy time with a LFN. I have a pile of the LFN style molds.

I'll post some pics when I can cast some.

chuckle.
I'm a RNFP fan, so the LFN isn't too much of a stretch [okay,, poor pun] for me to like.

Its a typical shape for him. Works quite well in many calibers. Not such a great 45 Colt profile tommy eye and preferences. But super quality molds no doubt!
My heavy is a 325 LBT WFN. Thats a profile I like very much. Also not so friendly in some actions for its longer length.

Maybe two months back, My buddy bought us a Arsenal mold. 250g 45 WFN. Its a awesome sight and we are enjoying it. Bought with paper in mind but would be hell on a close Pig or Deer!! Its a type 3 Wadcutter! And cuts beautiful holes!!

I said I'm a LFN fan, but the nose profiles I use may be better described as a RNFP. This particular mold does have a LFN. Indeed the nose length is not going to work in one of my 45 calibers as mentioned above, but everything else I have in 45 is either a Ruger or a custom long cylinder.

This mold may not provide the accuracy I want but we'll see. I did buy a mold for my shooting partner that I knew wasn't going to work at the speed he prefers to shoot. I was right. It was a WFNGC style from Accurate Molds. It wasn't too far from being a beer can shape. Pushed fast, it would shoot decent, but loping along it would shoot a pattern.

Oh well, I'm an experimenter at heart and just know the next mold I get will be "the one".

I really need to get rid of some of the molds I've bought that haven't been "the one"! They multiply some how....

This MP 45 Ruger Only is a GCHP mold. I'll probably get to cast with it next week as my schedule isn't cooperating right now. Don't know if I'll put the large or small HP pins in.

I actually prefer a GC on my cast bullets, but I do have a few PB molds that cast some fine bullets too. All I have in revolver molds are either Accurate aluminum or MP brass so I'm used to good cast bullets. Other makers produce fine molds I know, but I don't have surprises with the 2 listed makers and I'm used to how they operate.

I finally got to cast with the Ruger Only mold yesterday as it wasn't smoking hot outside. As usual for me with a new MP brass mold, it took quite a few pours to start to drop keepers.

I heat cycled it probably 5 times, but never put it in my ultra sonic cleaner. The last couple MP's didn't take as long on their first sessions to drop keepers and they were ultra sonic cleaned. I expect the second session will drop keepers quickly and the mold won't threaten to leave some oxide on the edges of the cavities. I watch for it using the brass molds when they are still new.

I wasn't intending to cast a box full anyway yesterday, so I only kept 75 of the pretty one's. As it's still relatively cool, I'll cast again this morning and get a pile of them so I can see how they shoot. I used the small HP pins (not small at all) with COWW + 2.5% tin added and 10 averaged 310 grains +/- 1 grain (light one was 309.6 and heavy was 310.5). Good enough as that was after they were PC'd and GC added.

They look like a great big Sledgehammer (.314" MP Molds Sledgehammer) to my eyes. I may shoot them first out of my FA83 with the 45 Colt cylinder as it'll take this long nose and I can push them as fast or as slow as I want. Great revolvers to experiment with but they tend to shoot everything good where my Ruger's are more picky.
