My 450-400 Ruger No 1

391 gr NEI GC w/ driving band. Also works in 400 Whelen and 400 H&H.
I don't push it hard +-1500 as that would end to end anything I apt to meet here in WY.

Dang nice group! What diameter is this bullet? I have a .405 Winchester, and have thought about a heavier bullet than the 300gr. it shoots now.

If I was going to have a Ruger No 1, that is the caliber I would choose. But then I already have a 40/50 SS, but it is best at 300 grain bullets, and kills everything I can hit with it.

That is BEAUTIFUL bevy of rifles! That group fired with the .411-391-RNGC is right fine as well.

We have fired a 345 grain FNGC from NOE in our 405 Winchester (jap) model 1895 at about 1650 fps with 34 grains of Buff Rifle. No leading and it smacks a 12" gong at 200 yards with real authority.

That looks like one of Walt Melanders bullet mold with the wedding band near the nose on the bullet. I have one of his molds with the dd band in 30 cal. Frank

FWIW… Local gun shop has a Ruger #1 in 458 Win Mag. I didn’t look at it up close and don’t think it had wood like any of the above. It would be fun to have but I really don’t want anything that big…

I picked up one of those back in the 90's and had it rechambered to .460 Weatherby Mag. When I was in college I worked at a gun shop that had one of those (rechambered to .460) come in on trade and I got to shoot it. Should have bought that one but didn't so years later I had to make my own. It looks like a regular #1H. Along with full power loads I like to shoot I also have 360 gr. and a 500 gr. cast bullet loads I shoot that are like 45-70 loads.

I shot one rechambered to 378 Weatherby. A few times.. TERRIBLE wood. P.O. Had BONDO-ED, a cheek rest!!:rofl::headscratch::oops:
Guess he figured that extra weight was a positive!

It surely, Ranks with some of heaviest recoilers I have shot!! The 550 & 600 Overkill topping that list.
