I tried less 5744 powder, but Accuracy went to pot. Velocity attained was 1175, 1250.1395 & 1580 fps. These 457121’s cast in WW are designed for 1400 fps. But they dont shoot well in my gun using this powder.
Im hunting with them this year.

I'm not a fan of 5744, but it seems to have some real bright spots.

What rifle are you shooting these out of? I have a 450 BM ordered in a CVA Cascade. I have dies, brass, bullets but no gun yet! Getting anxious...

I have two 450's. But those where with my Ruger American.
I have switched around and have been shooting that Lyman 450g 457122 (i think) with Herco and unique @ 1050/1070. Yup Sub sonics in the Ruger! They carry 1000+ FPE and will be dropping deer insode 100 for me!!

I found a load with AA9 and a 200g FTX that shoots so close to MOA in the MSR. So That gun shoots the jacketed bullets.

Doing exact same with my 350 legends. My RUGER bolt is Gotten a Cheap Bushnell Banner2 (because if reticule and cost) And is sighted with 7.3g Herco and a 270 Cast soft for 1075 fps and 900+ FPE. MY SCR is shootin Hornady 165 FTX @ 2200+fps.

I have some 330’s cast from a mold I borrowed from a buddy. Also have a 500gr mold for my son’s 45-70 but I don’t I’m going to try them in the 450. I have a set of molds on the way for a 250gr.

I’m not looking for a hot load, I want an accurate one! These are all plain based bullets and powder coated. I have Herco and Unique and would like to use up the Herco in the 450. It’s just slightly slower than Unique so I’m thinking start on the low end of Unique data? 10-13 grains in the ballpark?

I started testing with 400+ gr bullets. An being the recoil woose i am 1000 to 1100 fps was all i could take.
At 310 gr my shoulder felt much better. I have used that load successfully the last 2 years

Recoil wuss I am! That’s why I’m staying on the low end of the weight scale. I have some 230gr cast that don’t function well in my 45’s so I’ll try them. If they don’t work they’re headed back to the casting pot. I’ll also be trying some 200gr 45 acp/colt bullets I have which don’t feed great in the 45’s. Hopefully one of these will work but I have other options too. Heck, I could really have some fun by loading two of the 200gr bullets... Now that might be really interesting but only if I keep the recoil down.

I size down the gould express HP then load ontop of 5744 for about 1750-1800 fps.
I also use the
292g bullet also with 5744.
My Herco loads have been subs or just transsonic. Yes in slower then Unique. I have a few pounds myself.
I like the 450g bullet for my sub loads and it shoots very well.
